A number of Microsoft tablets are experiencing power cable issues.
Starting today (January 22nd), Microsoft will activate a recall program for faulty power cords on Surface Pro, Surface Pro 2, and Surface Pro 3 models sold before July 2015.
The main reason for this recall is that the power cords of the affected Surface Pro models have a defect that causes overheating, which could be dangerous for users.

"We launched this free recall program after receiving complaints from some Surface Pro users that their AC power cords were having problems, especially with the cords being twisted or bent, causing overheating," a Microsoft spokesperson said.
The recall program may not apply to power cords that are in perfect working condition – meaning not deformed in the way of bending or twisting – and it also won't apply to the Surface Pro 4, as this tablet model was only released late last year.
Additionally, this program does not apply to tablet models other than Surface Pro. This means that those who purchased a Surface Pro, Surface Pro 2, or Surface Pro 3 in the US before March 2015 will receive a free power cord replacement.
For users in other countries, Microsoft's faulty power cord replacement program will be rolled out shortly after the US market.
