The Bua Cave Festival is a rich and distinctive traditional cultural activity of the Thai ethnic group in the Chieng Ngam district, one of the nine major districts of Quy Chau prefecture. The festival was revived in 1996 and has since been maintained and organized annually by the local government and people.
The festival takes place on a wide open space at the foot of Pha En Mountain, home to the famous Bua Cave, one of the most renowned relics in western Nghe An province. The festival is linked to the legend of the pioneers who established the village in ancient times: the three brothers Xieu Bo, Xieu Ke, and Xieu Luong – who were instrumental in reclaiming land, bringing water to the village, and leading the people in fighting against invaders. The area is also associated with the legend of the love story between the hero Khun Tinh and the maiden Ny. It also witnessed famous battles during the Lam Son Uprising in the 15th century. Furthermore, it was the operational area of the Can Vuong resistance fighter Lang Van Thiet in the late 19th century. The site was recognized as a "Historical and Cultural Relic – Scenic Site" by the Ministry of Culture and Information in 1997.
