Thousands of Buddhists attended the 2017 Buddha's Birthday celebration.

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of April 28th, thousands of Buddhists from all over the country gathered to attend the Great Buddha's Birthday Celebration (Buddhist calendar 2561, Gregorian calendar 2017) at Dai Tue Pagoda in Nam Anh commune, Nam Dan district.

Attending the ceremony were Comrade Le Xuan Dai - Member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee - Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Venerable Thich Thanh Dam, Member of the Central Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha; Venerable Thich Thanh Nhieu - Permanent Vice Chairman of the Central Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, Head of the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Nghe An province; representatives from provincial departments and agencies, along with venerable monks, nuns, and Buddhist followers from within and outside the province.

This year, the Buddha's Birthday celebration coincides with the Nghe An Lotus Festival and the 2nd Congress of the Nghe An Provincial Buddhist Association for the 2017-2022 term, also marking the nationwide preparation for the 127th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's birth.

At the ceremony, Venerable Thich Thanh Nhieu, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Central Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha and Head of the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Nghe An province, read the message from the Supreme Patriarch to the Buddha's Birthday celebration. The message emphasized national unity, adherence to the Sangha Charter and state laws, with the goal of "living a good life and practicing virtuous conduct."

On behalf of the provincial leadership, Comrade Le Xuan Dai extended his best wishes to all Venerable Buddhist dignitaries, monks, nuns, and followers for a joyful and peaceful Vesak season, imbued with spiritual significance and national unity; and wished the 2nd Provincial Buddhist Congress for the 2017-2022 term great success.

The Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee also commended the achievements of the Executive Board of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Nghe An province, and acknowledged and highly appreciated the positive contributions of the Executive Board of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Nghe An province to the cause of innovation and development of the homeland and the country. He expressed his hope that the venerable monks, nuns, and Buddhists of Nghe An would continue to preserve and promote the tradition of protecting the nation and ensuring peace for the people, strengthening national unity, and adhering to the motto: Buddhism - Nation and Socialism.

On this occasion, monks and Buddhist followers of Dai Tue Pagoda donated 5 school computers and a medicine cabinet to the Nam Anh Commune Health Station in Nam Dan District.
