Representatives from Indonesia's disaster mitigation agency said initial searches have identified 120 foreign tourists among the 389 registered climbers. They were brought down on September 28. No casualties were reported among the tourists found. Indonesian officials have not yet released the nationalities of the missing tourists, and the search is still ongoing.
The volcanic eruption also caused delays of several hours for flights at Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali and Selaparang, Mataram. Nearby farms were covered in ash, but there was no direct threat to villages or local residents.
Barujari is a small volcano located within the Rinjani crater, on the island of Lombok, between Bali and western Nusa Tenggara. It is prone to earthquakes and eruptions due to its location on the Pacific Ring of Fire.
