(Baonghean.vn) - The recent floods have caused serious damage to aquaculture households in many areas of Nghi Loc district and the outskirts of Vinh City... To ensure the success of subsequent shrimp farming seasons and to prepare for the upcoming Typhoon Sarika, people are urgently addressing environmental issues in farming areas and repairing damaged ponds and lagoons.

Following prolonged heavy rains, nearly 16 hectares of shrimp farms in Nghi Thai commune (Nghi Loc district) were completely destroyed, affecting approximately 30 households. The total estimated loss is over 1.5 billion VND. In Hung Hoa commune (Vinh City), out of a total of 120 hectares, 8 hectares, affecting about 10 households, were severely impacted by the floods. Most of the shrimp in these households had only been stocked for 10-50 days.

The nets used to prevent water from overflowing the lake were torn to shreds after the prolonged heavy rains and flooding.

The shrimp, which were in their growth stage, died due to water pollution, a consequence of the recent floods.

Even the carefully constructed and reinforced shrimp pond embankments were eroded after the heavy rains.

Many sections have suffered serious landslides and embankment breaches.

The locals had to dig up the soil and put it into bags to reinforce the embankment.
