Defender Ho Van Cuong: 'I feel like I didn't play well at the U23 Asia'

On the afternoon of April 28, the Vietnam U23 team arrived in Hanoi after completing their arduous journey at the 2024 AFC U23 Championship finals.

Defender Ho Van Cuong was an important factor of U23 Vietnam at the recent U23 Asian Cup finals. Despite high expectations, the player from Nghe An did not really leave much of an impression. He only played at an average level.

After returning to Hanoi, Ho Van Cuong shared: "Before the tournament took place, I always thought that when I entered the field, I would try my best, and with the whole team, try to go as far as possible, and achieve the best results. In my opinion, I did not play well in the last tournament. I did not play much recently, so my feeling for the ball and the field was not good, and I was still confused when entering the field, so the last tournament was not a successful tournament for me."

Not only talking about himself, Ho Van Cuong also regretted that U23 Vietnam could not continue: "The two sides (U23 Vietnam and U23 Iraq) were in a tug of war with each other, there was nothing too different, I was only eliminated because of a small mistake. In football, everyone makes mistakes. Moreover, this is only U23, no one has really much experience. From here, the players will try their best in each match in the future. Coach Hoang Anh Tuan said that there is nothing to be sad about because we have tried our best, but we must try harder so that when there are big tournaments in the future, we can participate and play better."

Finally, Ho Van Cuong expressed his hope that U23 Indonesia will continue to advance in the tournament: "I hope U23 Indonesia can go as far as possible because they are also a team in the same Southeast Asian region."
