The American Patriot PAC-3 missile is no match for this weapon system because it only has a range of 40 km and an altitude of 20 km, while the Russian S-500 has a range of 600 km and an altitude of up to 100 km.
In an interview with Sputnik radio, Russian military expert Viktor Baranets praised Russia's new generation S-500 Prometey missile system, which is in its final testing phase, for its unprecedented destructive capabilities.
Recently, Pavel Sozinov, chief engineer of the Russian defense corporation Almaz-Antey, stated that Russia's new generation S-500 surface-to-air missile system is capable of striking targets in the upper atmosphere, 100 km above the Earth's surface.
The S-500, designed by Almaz-Antey, has a range of up to 600 km and is capable of destroying up to 10 ballistic and hypersonic missile targets traveling at speeds up to 7 km/second.
Speaking to Sputnik, expert Viktor Baranets pointed out the "unique" characteristics of the S-500 Prometey. "The S-500 is capable of intercepting targets at altitudes up to 100 km above ground, which is actually near-space. The final tests of the system will take place at one of the largest training grounds in Kazakhstan, as the effective range of the S-500 is 600 km. No other surface-to-air missile system in the world has such a destructive radius," Baranets said.

According to Baranets, the S-500 system is also designed to destroy the warheads of hypersonic missiles. He asserted that, by its characteristics, the S-500 will significantly surpass the S-400 and will be more powerful than its American counterpart, the Patriot (PAC-3) missile system.
Comparing the S-500 to other missiles, Russian experts say the S-400 destroys targets within a range of 400 km and an altitude of 60 km, while the S-500 has a range of 600 km and an altitude of 100 km. The American Patriot missile, on the other hand, has the disadvantage of a maximum range of 40 km and an altitude of 20 km.
Previously, the Russian news network Zvezda assessed the S-500 Prometey missile system not only as Russia's next-generation missile system, but also as a package of measures aimed at transforming Russia's air defense system into a single information space.
According to Zvezda, "it can now be said that Russia has created the world's first multi-stage air defense system, which will certainly protect the country from massive missile attacks."
