Rare case: Bladder ruptured for a day without the patient knowing.

Upon admission, doctors determined that the patient had suffered a ruptured bladder within the peritoneum for more than a day.

Xuyen A General Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City is treating a 26-year-old male patient who had a ruptured bladder for over a day without realizing it.

Patient LV S, 26 years old, from Hoc Mon district, Ho Chi Minh City, was admitted to the emergency room at Xuyen A General Hospital on June 26th with severe abdominal pain.

This patient had a ruptured bladder but was unaware of it.

Based on the CT scan results and a consultation between the Emergency Department and the Urology Department, the doctors determined that the patient had suffered an intraperitoneal bladder rupture for more than a day.

The patient quickly underwent surgery to repair a 12cm long bladder tear. Currently, the patient's health is stable.

According to Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Phuong Tam, Head of the Urology Department at Xuyen A General Hospital, if not surgically treated promptly, patients can die from bladder rupture causing urine to leak into the abdominal cavity. This can lead to peritonitis, increasingly severe uremia, potentially serious infection, and ultimately death.

The best way to prevent this is to urinate only when your bladder is full. According to doctors, traffic accidents are one of the most common causes of bladder rupture.
