Thai Hoa town has built many self-management models for production development and solidarity to build civilized residential areas. These models have had a positive impact on socio-economic development and community cohesion.

Waste classification, creating a fund to support members

More than 200 kg of waste paper, 49 kg of plastic waste, and many other scraps are the amount of scraps that the Women's Union of Tan Tien block, Hoa Hieu ward, Thai Hoa town collected last November.

Every last Sunday of the month, households in Tan Tien block collect scrap to “turn waste into funds”. As scheduled, all the members of the association gather in large numbers, with bags of waste sorting. Through this activity, stories about village love and neighborhood sentiment are also extended.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Quynh Phuong - Head of the Women's Association of Tan Tien Ward said: "This activity has been maintained by the women for 7 years now, so every family in the block has the habit of sorting waste at the source, focusing on collection, limiting plastic waste that pollutes the environment. On average, the association earns more than 1 million VND per month from this activity. Although the amount is not much, the women try to save it into a common fund to support members in difficult circumstances, illness, etc."

Also from this fund, the women of Tan Tien block have planted flower pots, turning the former garbage collection areas into clean, beautiful street corners. Thanks to that, the situation of haphazard garbage collection no longer occurs.

Ms. Nguyen Van Anh - President of the Women's Union of Hoa Hieu Ward, Thai Hoa Town said: Implementing the movement launched by the Central Union on building a "5 no, 3 clean" family, associated with building a civilized urban area, in recent times, the Women's Union of the ward has chosen to promote the movement with many practical actions, to both ensure a clean kitchen, a clean house, and contribute to protecting the environment... The movement was first implemented at the Women's Union of Tan Tien block, and has now been expanded to other blocks in the area.

After 7 years of launching, the movement has raised over 400 million VND, promptly helping disadvantaged members and poor children to excel in their studies in many ways, such as buying seedlings, buying health insurance cards, supporting the construction of charity houses; giving scholarships, supporting orphaned students in the "Godmother" program, etc.

Residential group cooperates for economic development

In Hamlet 7, Nghia Thuan Commune, in 2022, a buffalo breeding cooperative was formed with 7 members. Realizing the practical effectiveness, by 2023, the safe vegetable production cooperative officially came into operation with 12 members. Since its establishment, the members of the cooperative have learned from each other about farming and animal husbandry, and actively participated in training courses organized by the commune. With the spirit of those with experience sharing with those without experience, after a period of operation, the income of member households has increased significantly.

Ms. Truong Thi Xuan - a member of the safe vegetable growing cooperative said: "Our households intercrop many types of vegetables such as cauliflower, cucumber, corn, kohlrabi, cabbage... Not only do we receive technical support through training sessions of the commune, in daily production, if any problems arise, we can directly ask each other, or ask other members of the group to support production and harvesting, thanks to which the yield has increased, the quality of vegetables is also more guaranteed than before."

Mr. Vo Sy Lieu - Head of Hamlet 7, Nghia Thuan Commune, Thai Hoa Town, who is also the head of the cooperative groups for breeding buffaloes and producing safe vegetables, shared: "Because I am both the head of the hamlet and the head of the cooperative groups, I can proactively grasp information and share with people about weather forecasts, pests, and markets. In addition, after training sessions organized by the commune, we also regularly exchange and share experiences with each other to improve our knowledge and support each other during peak times or when we are sick or in difficulty."

Besides the effectiveness in economic development, the cooperatives have promoted the spirit of solidarity, mutual support, and strengthened village and neighborhood ties.

According to Mr. Le Ke Vinh - Chairman of the Fatherland Front of Nghia Thuan commune, 80% of the people in hamlet 7 participate in agricultural production. The people's lives have been improved a lot thanks to their active participation in planting and raising livestock. Previously, people raised livestock on a small scale, but since the establishment of cooperative groups, their income has improved a lot compared to before. Up to now, there are only 2 poor households in hamlet 7. Therefore, in the coming time, following the development direction of the locality, the Fatherland Front of the commune will continue to mobilize people to establish cooperative groups and associations for economic development, believing that the people's lives will become increasingly better.

Previously, the cooperative model was successfully established in Hamlet 6, Nghia Thuan Commune. From the initial 6 households, the goat raising cooperative now has 17 member households, with a total herd of 450 - 550 goats, thereby creating jobs for 17 local workers with an income of 5 - 7 million VND/month. Up to now, the cooperative has linked up with traders from the Northern provinces, ensuring product output.

Recognizing the effectiveness of cooperative models for economic development and sustainable poverty reduction, in the coming time, the Fatherland Front of Thai Hoa town and organizations and unions will continue to mobilize, gather and unite people from all walks of life to replicate at the grassroots level. Next year, the Fatherland Front of the town will focus on building "Self-governed, united, prosperous and happy residential areas" in 9/9 communes and wards, continuing to effectively unite and help each other develop the economy and escape poverty sustainably.
