Coach Jamal Abu Abed was not really satisfied when Jordan only managed a 1-1 draw against Vietnam in the final match of the 2019 Asian Cup qualifiers on the evening of March 27.

Vietnam opened the scoring but Jordan's efforts helped the team from the Middle East get a draw, thereby protecting the top position in Group C of the 2018 Asian Cup qualifiers.

This result does not affect the rankings of the two teams. Jordan leads the group with 12 points, while Vietnam has 2 points less. Both teams are participating in the 2019 Asian Cup and are likely to fall into group 3 or 4.

“We couldn’t play the way we wanted in the first half. Jordan was one goal behind and made a lot of individual mistakes. It wasn’t until the second half that we really played effectively, created many chances and scored a late equalizer,” said coach Jordan after the match.

As underdogs, Vietnam surprisingly dominated Jordan in the first half. Nguyen Anh Duc put the visitors ahead. Not long after, Cong Phuong hit the crossbar. The fact that goalkeeper Dang Van Lam had to leave the field due to injury did not affect much the excellent game that coach Park Hang-seo had created.

Cong Phuong had a shot that hit the crossbar in the first half, when Vietnam's game was better than Jordan's.

However, in the second half, the Jordanian coach made very reasonable personnel adjustments and put comprehensive pressure on the Vietnamese team. Midfielder Abu Amara equalized 1-1 for the home team in the 71st minute with a tricky long-range shot. Then, this same player also shot straight at Tuan Manh's foot in a one-on-one situation. The goalkeeper of Khanh Hoa deserved to be the hero of the Vietnamese team when he made another miraculous save after Al Laham's header hit the ground.

“Jordan missed many scoring opportunities in this match. The fact that many players are injured has greatly affected our preparation for this match. We are looking forward to the results of the draw for the 2019 Asian Cup and believe that the squad will be more complete and stable to achieve good results in the continental arena,” emphasized coach Abu Abed.

Before the match against Vietnam, the Jordan Football Association (JFA) has planned for the home team to play friendly matches with quality teams to improve their level. Since the beginning of 2018, the West Asian team has met Denmark and Kuwait. In the near future, they will face China (May 26), Albania (October 10) and Croatia - the team ranked 15th in the world, to have the best preparation for the number one tournament of the continent next year.
