Foreign coach accused by Thanh Hoa players of 'overthrowing' his job.

“Parting ways with Thanh Hoa was my decision. But it wasn't something I truly wanted. It was the opinion of the Thanh Hoa Club president after listening to a group of players who they believed deserved to be in the starting lineup because of their contributions to the team last season,” coach Mihail Marian shared.

Following the 1-3 defeat away to Khanh Hoa in the rescheduled match of Round 1 of the V-League 2018 on the afternoon of April 5th, coach Mihail Marian submitted his resignation, which was quickly accepted by the Thanh Hoa team's management. The former Technical Director of the Romanian Football Federation left after only four rounds in charge of the Vietnamese national championship.

“I’ve been thinking about leaving for a week now. I’ve noticed the players are no longer operating according to my tactics, which is very different from when I first arrived. They haven’t learned professionalism, how to become champions. I feel like I’m wasting my time here,” said coach Mihail Marian.

Mihail also stated that just a few hours before the final training session in preparation for the match against Khanh Hoa, five Thanh Hoa players left the hotel without his permission. This group also ate fast food and drank soft drinks – which is not good for professional athletes.

In the 2017 season, Thanh Hoa finished in second place, their best performance in the club's history. However, the club's management decided not to renew the contract of the former Champions League-winning coach Petrovic and instead signed Mihail Marian. Despite possessing one of the strongest squads in Vietnam, the Thanh Hoa team has now fallen to seventh place with two wins and two losses.
