“Saying goodbye to Thanh Hoa was my decision. But it was not what I wanted in my heart. It was the opinion of the Chairman of Thanh Hoa Club after listening to a group of players who they thought deserved to be in the starting lineup because of their contributions to the team last season,” coach Mihail Marian shared.
After the 1-3 loss at Khanh Hoa in the make-up match of round 1 of V-League 2018 on the afternoon of April 5, coach Mihail Marian submitted his resignation and was quickly accepted by the Thanh Hoa team's leadership. The former Technical Director of the Romanian Football Federation left after only 4 rounds of coaching in the Vietnamese national championship.
“I thought about leaving a week ago. I noticed that the players no longer operate according to the tactics I set out, very different from when I first arrived. They did not learn professionalism, how to become a champion. I felt it was a waste of time here,” coach Mihail Marian.
Mihail also said that just a few hours before the final training session to prepare for the match with Khanh Hoa, five Thanh Hoa players left the hotel without his permission. The group also ate fast food and drank soft drinks - which is not good for professional athletes.
In the 2017 season, Thanh Hoa finished in second place, the best achievement in the club's history. However, the team's board of directors still decided not to renew the contract with the C1 champion Petrovic and signed with Mr. Mihail Marian. Possessing the strongest force in Vietnam, but up to now, the Thanh team has fallen to seventh place with two wins and two losses.
