Since leading the U23 Vietnam team through a miraculous journey at the U23 Asian Cup and the success of the Vietnam Olympic team at the 2018 ASIAD, Korean fans have shown their interest and enthusiastic support for the Vietnam team throughout the campaign from the group stage until Coach Park Hang-seo and his team won the 2018 AFF Cup. For the first time in history, the Korean television station SBS bought the broadcasting rights of the 2018 AFF Cup to broadcast the matches of the Vietnam team. SBS canceled the broadcast of a famous movie to broadcast the AFF Cup final. And this decision brought them success when the viewership rate reached 18.1%, twice as high as the movie.
According to statistics from TNMS media data, in the first leg of the AFF Cup 2018 semi-final, the number of viewers watching the Vietnamese team on SBS television reached 1.5% and in the second leg of the semi-final, the number of people watching the match live on SBS set a new record: 2.6%, an increase of more than 1% compared to the first leg of the semi-final. The first leg of the AFF Suzuki Cup 2018 Final between Malaysia and Vietnam attracted 3.2% of paid subscribers of PP channel SBS Sports (Korea) to watch live.
