According to information from the Nghe An Irrigation Department, the province has 1,061 reservoirs; of which the locality manages more than 959. Currently, due to the heatwave, 38 reservoirs and dams have a capacity below 30% of their design capacity; of which, 19 reservoirs are at dead water level. A representative from the Giang Son Tay Commune People's Committee stated: The commune has 14 medium and small reservoirs; however, due to the prolonged heatwave, 12 reservoirs have run dry… Due to the lack of reservoir water, 100 out of 160 hectares of land cannot yet be used for rice cultivation. In Do Luong district, Mr. Tran Ngoc Thuan, Head of the District Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, said: The entire district currently has 122 reservoirs, but the water level is only at 30-35%. Currently, 7,900 hectares out of 8,100 hectares of summer-autumn rice have been planted. Due to the prolonged heatwave, many reservoirs have dried up, resulting in over 800 hectares of planted rice being affected by drought. Photo: Van Truong

Representatives from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Tan Ky district stated: The entire district has 152 reservoirs, of which the water level only reaches 30-35%, and many reservoirs have completely run dry. Due to difficulties in irrigation water sources, currently only 2,065 out of 4,430 hectares of summer-autumn rice have been planted in the entire district. The Nghe An Irrigation Department advises localities to review the water situation and develop irrigation plans to combat drought in each region. They should arrange production structures to suit irrigation capacity, avoiding planting in areas where water sources are not guaranteed.
