'Confidential files' about singer Cam Ly's eccentric husband.
The untold story of "Minh the Rainy Season" - the extraordinary man behind the success of singer Cam Ly and a series of hit songs from the Green Wave era, as told by musician Nguyen Nhat Huy.
On the occasion of Cam Ly's birthday, I would like to reveal the confidential file of "Minh the Rainy Day" - the eccentric husband of singer Cam Ly.
It would be a mistake to mention Nguyen Nhat Huy and Cam Ly.The person at the end of the streetwithout mentioning "Minh the Rainy Day".
The most memorable experience for me was my first meeting with Minh. After reading his article...The person at the end of the streetHe opened the cupboard and gave me enough money to buy a quantity of 9999 gold at that time, along with the suggestion, "Let me have the song."The person at the end of the streetExclusive rights for young singer Cam Ly to sing for 2 years.
Following that "worthwhile and crazy" decision, young singer Cam Ly became a music star, while I became a "Top Ten Green Wave Musician" with a series of songs:The Man at the End of the Street, Lonely Night, Strange Shore, Longing for a Stranger, The Teacher, Empty Wharf, Evening Clouds, Love in Pain, Only Memories Remain.
Not only that, singer Cam Ly is also the wife of "Minh Mua Bui" (Minh the Rainy Day singer) and they are still together to this day.

One of the strangest things about him, which led me and the music community to call him "Minh the Rainy Day" or "the devil who cries and the god who cries," is his ability to "predict the fate" of a song and the future of a musician just by holding a manuscript in his hand.
Back then, "Minh the Rainy Day"'s phone number was a mystery. I couldn't find it myself, so I asked Hoai An for help. He had to contact a journalist and then go through another musician to get the number.
After a week of waiting, Hoai An and I had a fateful meeting with the "music mogul" at Kim Loi Studio. After receiving the stack of songs by Hoai An and me, the first thing Mr. Minh said was: "Now you two go home so I can have a private discussion. I'll call you to let you know the results."
I discussed with Hoai An about finding a place within a 500-meter radius to wait so we could rush there as soon as we received the call. And just as I predicted, less than an hour later we received a call to "negotiate the price".

I remember that evening in 1999 vividly, the owner of the then-famous Kim Loi Studio announced exclusive rights to my compositions, with a copyright fee of 4 million dong per song, starting with...The person went to the end of the street.I immediately took 4 million VND to a gold shop on Cach Mang Thang Tam Street and bought one tael of 9999 gold.
My joy, like striking gold, was nothing compared to the excitement of waiting for the song to be recorded. One day, Minh called me to ask about the song. The person at the end of the streetCan I give it to a young singer?... I gave the song hoping that Lam Truong, Phuong Thanh, or Minh Thuan—famous singers of that era—would sing it, so saying "a young singer" was beyond my expectations.
But since I had already received the money and signed an exclusive contract giving Kim Loi the full right to use the song, I essentially "closed my eyes and went along with it." Minh added: "The song..."The person at the end of the street"We'll bring in a new arranger."
It felt like two bolts of lightning struck me, because the music arranger's work accounts for 50% of a song's success. Kim Lợi always regularly invited musicians like Mạnh Trinh, Bảo Chấn, and Đức Trí to work with them, yet they heartlessly gave my song to a new musician.
After listening to it, I had several sleepless nights because I didn't know the lyrics. The person at the end of the streetWhere would it all lead? Then, one fine day, Minh called me to listen to a song. And when I walked into the recording studio and heard the intro, I was stunned.
When they heard a woman's soft, gentle voice, like a silken ribbon, utter the words: "GTears fell from my eyes when you said goodbye..."The image of my ex-lover, I wrote this song as a gift."The person at the end of the streetIt was as if it came to life through each lyric. I realized I had found a kindred spirit in music here, and that was Cam Ly - the young singer that Minh mentioned before.
From then on, the duo Cam Ly and Nguyen Nhat Huy became closely associated with a series of articles:The Man at the End of the Street, Strange Shores, Longing for a Stranger, The Teacher, The Deserted Wharf, Love in Pain.
It's safe to say that the time I spent working with "Minh the Rainy Day" was the most romantic, blissful, and rewarding period of my music career, with a fee for each song equivalent to the price of one ounce of 9999 gold.
However, I also had a few tough times being "tricked" into acting while filming music videos with Cam Ly. Sometimes I only found out after accepting the role that I was pulling a cart for the singer on her way to her wedding. But what I remember most is when "Minh the Rainy Day" and Cam Ly had a falling out. I wasted money on phone calls, desperately talking to one person and then begging the other...
Once, I was on the phone explaining things to Cam Ly until almost midnight, and I was so tired that I fell asleep, leaving Minh anxiously wondering what his girlfriend's reaction would be. As a result, he couldn't sleep that night either.
Back then, I used to occasionally hope they'd have a fight so I'd "have something to do"—calling them on the phone to chat and try to make up. In return, after they made up, they'd go out for a big meal and drinks until they were exhausted.
