Support the O Du ethnic group in Nghe An to preserve traditional culture

The O Du ethnic group in Nghe An and 15 other ethnic minorities with a population of less than 10,000 people will be supported with at least two types of folk songs and dances typical of their ethnic groups to preserve and develop.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has just approved the Project Program of Festival Activities and Cultural and Art Performances of Ethnic Groups at Provincial, Regional and National Levels for the 2015-2020 Period.

16 ethnic minorities with a population of less than 10,000 people will be supported with at least 2 types of folk songs and dances typical of their ethnic groups to preserve and develop.

According to the above Project, 16 ethnic minorities with a population of less than 10,000 people will be supported: Si La, Pu Peo, Ro Mam, Brau, O Du, Lo Lo, Mang, Co Lao, Bo Y, Cong, Ngai, La Hu, La Ha, Pa Then, Chut, Lu in the provinces of Dien Bien, Lai Chau, Ha Giang, Cao Bang, Lao Cai, Son La, Quang Binh, Nghe An, Kon Tum.

Preserving traditional festivals at risk of being lost

The project aims to ensure that festivals are organized in accordance with festival regulations during the 2015-2017 period; 100% of ethnic minority festivals are researched and given specific instructions on content, programs, and scripts (if any); selectively restore good traditional festivals, games, and folk performances that have been lost; selectively preserve traditional festivals at risk of being lost; 50% of grassroots cultural workers are ethnic minorities. Each district and ethnic minority region is supported with at least one type of folk song and dance typical of the ethnic group for preservation and development...

In the period of 2018-2020, strive to have 60% of the staff working in grassroots cultural work being ethnic minorities; 80% of the staff working in cultural work are trained in festival management and organization at least once a year. Each district and ethnic minority region is supported with at least 2 types of folk songs and dances typical of the ethnic group for preservation and development.

Cultural development linked with socio-economic development

Festival programs and cultural and artistic performances are closely linked to socio-economic development, ensuring suitability for each ethnic group and region, exploiting and preserving the characteristics of traditional ethnic cultural festivals, minimizing formality. Special priority is given to unique traditional cultural and artistic performances of ethnic minorities in each region that are at risk of being lost.

Gradually improve the quality of festivals and unique cultural and artistic performances of ethnic groups, closely linking with tourism for socio-economic development; synchronously build and promote the role of grassroots cultural institutions to effectively serve the cultural and artistic performances of ethnic groups.
