Chrysanthemums on the 15th day of the first lunar month are sold at prices nearly double those during Tet.
The supply of yellow chrysanthemums in Nghe An is not much anymore, so the chrysanthemum market on the occasion of the 15th day of the first lunar month has increased dramatically compared to before Tet.

A tour of the fresh flower gardens in Dien Chau and Yen Thanh districts these days shows that there are not many yellow chrysanthemums left. Meanwhile, the number of traders looking to buy chrysanthemums to sell on the occasion of the Full Moon Festival in January has increased sharply. This is also the reason why the number of yellow chrysanthemums this time has increased dramatically, nearly double compared to the last Lunar New Year.

At the flower fields of Hoa Thanh town (Yen Thanh) on February 9 (January 12), flower garden owners are busy harvesting the remaining flower beds to sell to customers. Mr. Phan Quoc Nam, the owner of the chrysanthemum garden, said that during the last Lunar New Year, yellow chrysanthemums cost 3,000 VND/plant, but this January Full Moon Festival increased to 5,000 VND/plant, but there are not many to sell.

“Like previous years, the family planted 2-3 batches to sell before and after Tet. Therefore, during the last Tet holiday, the family sold nearly 120,000 chrysanthemum plants of all kinds, and this Full Moon Festival, they sold 70,000 plants. With a selling price of 5,000 VND/plant, chrysanthemum growers are excited because they make a good profit,” Mr. Phan Quoc Nam shared.
Next door is the yellow chrysanthemum garden of Ms. Nguyen Thi Dien's family, which is also being sold to traders. Ms. Dien said that on this Full Moon Festival, chrysanthemums sold in the garden to wholesale customers are 5,000 VND/plant, retail is 7,000 VND/plant, with about 50,000 chrysanthemums harvested on this occasion, the family earned nearly 300 million VND.
“To have chrysanthemum beds that ensure both even plant height and large, beautiful flowers, flower growers must take great care for 3 consecutive months, not only in terms of costs for seeds, fertilizers, etc., but also in terms of electricity consumption for many months, having to keep hundreds of light bulbs on all night for the flowers to grow,” Ms. Dien shared.

With the chrysanthemum garden of Mr. An Tuyet's family in Dien Ky commune (Dien Chau), on this Full Moon Festival of January, the price is only sold wholesale at 3,000 to 3,500 VND/plant. Explaining the reason why chrysanthemums here are sold at a lower price than in Yen Thanh, Ms. Tuyet said that because the chrysanthemums in the garden are small, the flowers are small, so they are sold at a cheaper price than other places.
“During the last Tet holiday, selling flowers at 2,500 to 3,000 VND/plant, the family made a profit; this January, selling at a higher price, the profit has clearly increased, thanks to that, flower growers have made a profit this year,” said An Tuyet and her husband.

Chrysanthemum growing in Nghe An has been developing strongly for about 5-7 years now, to serve the fresh flower market in the province. According to data from localities, in Yen Thanh there are about 15-20 hectares of Tet flowers; Dien Chau district has about 10 hectares. In addition, in other localities such as Quynh Luu, Hoang Mai town, Vinh city, Hung Nguyen district, Nam Dan... people grow chrysanthemums for sale quite a lot.
However, most of the chrysanthemums were sold during the Lunar New Year, with only a small portion remaining for sale in January. Meanwhile, the demand for yellow chrysanthemums in January is quite high, so according to the experience of flower growers, the price of chrysanthemums after Tet is often higher than during the Lunar New Year./.
