"Many years of experience in growing flowers for commercial purposes"market"The period before, during, and after Tet shows that fresh flowers are not only consumed in large quantities during Tet, but also during the full moon of the twelfth lunar month and the first lunar month, so we arrange to plant multiple batches of flowers to meet market demand," Mr. Phan Quoc Nam shared.

As predicted, fresh flowers are in short supply this Tet holiday, so customers are placing orders directly at the gardens. The price for chrysanthemums at the garden ranges from 4,000 to 6,000 VND per plant (depending on the type). At this price, flower growers are making a substantial profit. Mr. Nam said that by the 26th day of the 12th lunar month, most of the flowers in his garden had already been ordered wholesale, reducing the family's harvesting and sales costs.

In Dien Chau district, flower gardens in Dien Ky commune are also bustling with customers. Ms. Tuyet An and her husband, owners of the largest flower garden in Dien Ky commune, happily shared that based on consumer demand, they grow many varieties of chrysanthemums.

Accordingly, short chrysanthemum plants are priced at 2,000 - 3,000 VND/plant, while tall chrysanthemum plants are priced at 4,000 - 5,000 VND/plant. Other types of flowers are also selling well.

"There were years when tall chrysanthemum plants sold for only 2,000 VND each at the garden, meaning we worked for free that year without any profit. But this year, with such high prices, our family is very happy," Ms. Tuyet shared.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc, a flower trader, this year's Tet holiday sees a shortage of fresh flowers, especially chrysanthemums, while demand remains strong. Therefore, the increase in flower prices is inevitable. Ms. Ngoc uses various means of transportation to deliver flowers from farms to retail outlets daily, earning a considerable income.

According to local data, the area of ​​flowers grown by farmers for the Lunar New Year is not large. For example, in Dien Chau district, according to Mr. Le The Hieu, Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the entire district has about 4-5 hectares of flowers, concentrated in the communes of Dien Ky, Dien Dong, Dien Thai, etc.

In Yen Thanh district, the area planted with flowers is estimated at about 20 hectares. Mr. Le Van Hong, Head of the Agriculture and Rural Development Department of the district, said that of these 20 hectares, in addition to farmers renting land to grow flowers on double-cropped rice fields, some areas are also grown in greenhouses.

However, according to gardeners, while the area for flower cultivation is not large, this year's heavy rains have resulted in a high rate of damaged plants and a lower number of flowers compared to previous years.

A survey of the chrysanthemum market in rural areas shows that, in addition to local supply, chrysanthemums are also imported from Da Lat and other locations. However, customers still prefer locally grown chrysanthemums because they stay fresh longer, while the price is the same. Currently, the retail price of chrysanthemums on the market ranges from 5,000 to 7,000 VND per flower.
