"Many years of experience growing flowers to servemarket"The research before, during and after Tet shows that fresh flowers are not only consumed a lot during Tet, but also during the full moon of December and the first lunar month, so we should arrange to plant many batches of flowers to serve market demand," Mr. Phan Quoc Nam shared.
As predicted, fresh flowers were in short supply this Tet holiday, so customers came to order right at the garden. The selling price at the garden for chrysanthemums is from 4,000 - 6,000 VND/plant (depending on the type of chrysanthemum). With this selling price, flower growers make a big profit. Mr. Nam said that by December 26, most of the flowers in the garden had been ordered by customers, so his family reduced the cost of harvesting and selling.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc, a fresh flower trader, said that this year's Tet, the supply of fresh flowers is scarcer than previous years, especially chrysanthemums, while the market is consuming strongly, so it is inevitable that the price of flowers will increase. According to local data, the area of flowers grown by people for Tet is not much. For example, in Dien Chau district, according to Mr. Le The Hieu - Head of the district's Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the whole district has about 4 - 5 hectares of flowers, concentrated in the communes: Dien Ky, Dien Dong, Dien Thai...
In Yen Thanh district, the flower area is estimated at about 20 hectares. Mr. Le Van Hong - Head of the district's Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said that of these 20 hectares, in addition to people renting land to grow on 2-rice land, there are also some areas grown in greenhouses.
However, according to gardeners, while the flower area is not large, this year there has been a lot of rain, causing a high rate of damaged flower plants, and the number of flowers is lower than in previous years.
A survey of the chrysanthemum market in rural areas shows that, in addition to local supply, chrysanthemums are currently imported from Da Lat and some other localities. However, customers still prefer locally grown chrysanthemums because they last longer, while the selling price is the same. Currently, the retail price of chrysanthemums on the market is from 5,000 - 7,000 VND/flower.
