Miss Universe Million Dollar Fraudster Arrives in Court This Morning

After the first instance trial, Tuyet Nga filed an appeal. Up to now, the defendant has reimbursed 27 billion VND.

On the morning of November 17, the High People's Court in Ho Chi Minh City opened the appeal trial of defendant Truong Thi Tuyet Nga (56 years old, residing in Go Vap district) for fraud and appropriation of property. Senior Judge Le Thanh Van presided over the trial.

Nga won the title of Miss Successful Lady in 2009.

At the first instance trial on July 26, Tuyet Nga was sentenced to 15 years in prison and ordered to return 3.1 million USD and nearly 3,000 square meters of land to the victim.

After that, both the victim and the defendant filed an appeal. Up to now, the defendant has reimbursed 27 billion VND.

Defendant Truong Thi Tuyet Nga, who won the title of Miss Successful Lady in 2009, appeared in court at the first instance trial.

According to the first instance verdict, in 2007-2008, Ms. Nga applied for an investment license to build a luxury housing project and a commercial center on a 30,000 m2 plot of land in District 2, Ho Chi Minh City. However, the land was located in the planning area for Thu Thiem station, so the construction and investment license was not granted as this woman wished.

However, Ms. Nga still signed a contract to transfer land use rights to Ms. Duong My Linh, collecting a deposit of 3.1 million USD (according to the indictment). According to the agreement, the selling price was 1,800 USD/m², the total transaction value is 54 million USD. The transfer contract does not specifically describe the location of the land.

When questioned by the customer, Nga reassured him by affirming that there would be a detailed contract when the full payment for the land was paid. Along with that, Nga transferred nearly 3,000 square meters of land in the above-mentioned land to Mr. Tran Van Muoi.

Instead of handing over the land, Nga borrowed some land use right certificates. From the obtained papers, she completed the procedures to give them to her son. On April 3, 2008, the defendant used these "red books" to mortgage the bank for 131 billion VND and was discovered.

During the investigation, the authorities also received many complaints from individuals and organizations accusing this beauty queen of fraud and appropriation of nearly 900 billion VND.

The Supreme People’s Procuracy’s Investigation Department also prosecuted the defendant for bribing several officials to escape punishment in the fraud of appropriating 3.1 million USD. However, this act was separated and tried in another case./.
