The pitiful situation of the intelligent orphan girl

(Baonghean.vn) - We visited the family of Nguyen Thi Kim Thu, a 3C student at Quynh Thien B Primary School, Hoang Mai Town, just as she was returning home from school. Taking off her school bag, Thu went to the well to wash clothes and help her aunt cook. Being aware of her family's difficult circumstances early on, Thu is quite independent and more "mature" than her peers.

Receiving us in the small house without any valuable belongings left by her parents, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Quang (born in 1979) - Thu's aunt said: Thu is the only daughter of Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuc (born in 1976). As a single mother, Ms. Phuc always devotes all her love to taking care of Thu, hoping to make up for her child's lack of affection. Although life is still difficult and she herself does not have a stable job, thanks to the help of relatives on her mother's side, the mother and child still manage to get by.

But misfortune soon befell the young child. In May 2014, on the way home from taking her grandmother to the doctor, Ms. Phuc had a traffic accident and died. Already lacking the love of her father, now that her mother was no longer there, little Thu became an orphan at the age of 6.

Thu's only remaining support is her grandmother Nguyen Thi Hanh, who is nearly 70 years old. With a small salary from a retired worker, the life of the two grandmothers and grandchildren is lacking in every way. On the first day of first grade, while her friends were eagerly being taken to school by their parents, Thu was hiding behind her grandmother with fearful eyes. At an age where she needs the care and guidance of her parents to get used to a new learning environment, Thu has no one but her elderly grandmother.

Misfortune followed when her grandmother passed away after a serious illness in September 2016. Feeling sorry for her young grandchild who had to be orphaned early, her aunt, Nguyen Thi Hong Quang, quit her job as a factory worker in the South to stay home to take care of and raise her grandchild.

Currently, Ms. Quang does not have a stable job, only accepting to repair clothes every day; earning only a few tens of thousands a day. Ms. Quang is also thin and weak so she cannot work for hire. With an unstable income and having to take care of her niece's education, the life of the two aunts and nieces is extremely difficult. She also does not dare to think about her own happiness because she cannot bear to leave her niece behind as an orphan.

Despite the hardships and misfortunes, Thu is very obedient and a good student. Ms. Ho Thi Minh Tuyet - homeroom teacher of class 3C said: In class, Thu is a quick-witted, obedient student with a sense of learning. Every year, she is awarded the title of Uncle Ho's good child, an exemplary student of the school. If given the opportunity to study, she will certainly do well in the future.

Saying goodbye to her family, little Thu’s innocent yet sad eyes haunted us. We wondered where her future would lead?!
