Since the beginning of 2026, African swine fever has appeared in 10 residential areas in Hoang Mai ward, affecting 22 livestock households; 158 pigs with a total weight of nearly 14 tons had to be culled. The local authorities are implementing comprehensive measures to contain and control the outbreak.

Hoang Mai ward currently has a total pig population of approximately 6,000, including 8 large and medium-sized farms with about 4,000 pigs, while the rest are small-scale farms. Since the beginning of the year, the disease has appeared in 10 blocks, affecting 22 households; 158 pigs had to be culled, with a total weight of 13,930 kg.

As soon as the outbreak was detected, the ward issued a plan for disease prevention and control; established a steering committee and teams for destruction, disinfection, sterilization, mobile control teams, and community surveillance teams in each block; and simultaneously declared an epidemic according to regulations.

Disinfection and sterilization work is being carried out in outbreak areas and high-risk zones; strict containment and monitoring are being implemented to prevent the disease from spreading widely. Authorities are strengthening control over the slaughter, trading, and transportation of pigs and pork products; and strictly handling cases of violations.

The ward also intensified its efforts to educate livestock farmers about disease prevention and control measures; urging them not to conceal outbreaks and not to sell sick or dead pigs on the market.

Given the potential risk of disease outbreaks due to the changing seasons and the prevalence of small-scale livestock farming, the People's Committee of the ward has allocated contingency funds to purchase chemicals and equipment; organized large-scale disinfection and sterilization in the affected area and surrounding regions; and established rapid response teams in each block to promptly handle any new outbreaks.

With coordinated measures, Hoang Mai ward is focusing on controlling and containing the disease, minimizing losses for livestock farmers, and stabilizing production.
