Prince William arrived in Hanoi on November 16 to attend the International Conference on Illegal Wildlife Trade (IWT), organized by the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on November 17-18.
The prince will join world leaders in the fight to save elephants, rhinos and other rare animals from extinction. The summit brings together representatives of countries to pledge to join forces to intensify the fight against poachers and illegal wildlife traffickers.
Prince William is actively involved in activities to combat illegal wildlife trafficking. According to BBC, the Duke of Cambridge is currently the Chairman of "United for Wildlife", a joint project between the world's seven largest wildlife protection organizations under the chairmanship of the British Royal Charitable Foundation.
“This is an issue that is very close to His Royal Highness’ heart. Prince William knows that the people of Vietnam will share his concern that we have only around 25 years left to save some of our most iconic animals from extinction. His Royal Highness believes that Vietnam has a real opportunity to be a world leader in wildlife conservation and looks forward to discussing this issue when he meets the Prime Minister and Vice President of Vietnam,” Kensington Palace said in a statement.
The statement added that the Prince is also looking forward to walking around and seeing the streets of Hanoi. During his visit, the Prince will visit a school, a cafe and meet Vietnamese people of his generation who are active in fields such as music, art and business.
“Thank you for welcoming His Royal Highness. His Royal Highness looks forward to meeting the people of Vietnam,” the statement stressed.
Prince William is second in line to the British throne after his father, Prince Charles. The Duke of Cambridge married Catherine Middleton in 2011 and the couple have two children.
