A 9th-grade student won first prize in the 2016 UPU letter writing competition.

Among the 100 best letters that reached the final round of the 45th UPU International Letter Writing Competition held in Vietnam, the letter by Nguyen Thi Thu Trang, class 9B, Nguyen Trai Secondary School, Nam Sach, Hai Duong, was awarded first prize.

The 45th UPU International Letter Writing Competition in Vietnam, with the theme "Write a letter to your 45-year-old self," was launched and implemented nationwide from October 14, 2015, by the Ministry of Information and Communications, the Ministry of Education and Training, the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, Vietnam Post Corporation, and the Thieu Nien Tien Phong Newspaper.

The Organizing Committee of the 45th UPU Letter Writing Competition 2016 has just announced that out of more than 900,000 letters submitted from schools nationwide, the 100 best letters have advanced to the final round.

And recently, the judging panel selected 1 first prize, 3 second prizes, 5 third prizes, and 30 consolation prizes.

The sole first prize went to Nguyen Thi Thu Trang, class 9B, Nguyen Trai Secondary School, Nam Sach, Hai Duong.

Three second prizes will be awarded to: Nguyen Thi Ngoc Anh, class 9A1, Nguyen Dang Dao Secondary School, Bac Ninh City, Bac Ninh Province; Nguyen Duc Anh, class 5A2, Lien Minh Primary School, Vinh Yen City, Vinh Phuc Province; and Duong Bao Nhi, class 7A1, Tran Quoc Toan Secondary School, District 9, Ho Chi Minh City.

The five third prizes were awarded to: Dang Nguyen Bao Tran, class 7A5, Tay Son Secondary School, Thai Binh City, Thai Binh Province; Vo Anh Tho, class 9A4, My Luong Town Secondary School, Cho Moi District, An Giang Province; Nguyen Ha Anh, class 8A2, Nguyen Huy Tuong Secondary School, Dong Anh District, Hanoi; Nguyen Quang Anh, class 9A, Le Ngoc Han Secondary School, Hai Ba Trung District, Hanoi; and Pham Huong Giang, class 8A5, An Thoi Secondary School, Binh Thuy District, Can Tho City.

And out of the 30 Encouragement Awards, 11 were given to students in Hanoi.

In addition, the Organizing Committee will award 3 supplementary prizes. These include: the prize for the youngest student, awarded to Vu Huyen Thuong (born December 26, 2005), class 5A, Dong Nguyen 2 Primary School, Tu Son Town, Bac Ninh Province; the prize for the student from an ethnic minority group, awarded to Lang Thi Quynh (San Diu ethnic group), class 10A2, Thai Nguyen Provincial Ethnic Boarding School; and the prize for the visually impaired student, awarded to Le Khanh Linh, class 7A2, Nguyen Dinh Chieu Secondary School, Hai Ba Trung District, Hanoi.

In addition to the individual awards mentioned above, seven team awards will be presented to the following schools: Nguyen Trai Secondary School, Nam Sach District, Hai Duong Province; Nguyen Dang Dao Secondary School, Bac Ninh City, Bac Ninh Province; Lien Minh Primary School, Vinh Yen City, Vinh Phuc Province; Tran Quoc Toan Secondary School, Ho Chi Minh City; Tay Son Secondary School, Thai Binh City; My Luong Town Secondary School, Cho Moi District, An Giang Province; Nguyen Huy Tuong Secondary School, Dong Anh District, Hanoi; Le Ngoc Han Secondary School, Hai Ba Trung District, Hanoi; and An Thoi Secondary School, Binh Thuy District, Can Tho City.
