The six-page essay on the book "Putin's Mettle," written in Russian by Vu Dinh Hung, a student in the 12C6 class specializing in Russian at Phan Boi Chau High School, won the "Most Impressive Essay" award from the organizers.
In his essay, Hung expressed his views and thoughts on the book "Putin's Mettle" and its impact on himself. The essay mentioned that Putin was a mischievous child in his youth, but thanks to his living and learning environment and the people who "guided" him, he changed and successfully became the President of Russia.
For Hung, the book about his childhood and the stories about President Putin guided him and helped him mature. The quote, "Things may never be alright. But we must still try," shaped his thinking and motivated him to strive for success.
Hung's essay, along with 32 other essays selected from 150 submissions, excelled and advanced to the final round. After a five-minute presentation in Russian to the judging panel at the Pushkin Institute in Hanoi, Hung made a strong impression on the judges with both his content and presentation. The judging panel decided to award Hung the Most Impressive Essay prize at the awards ceremony on November 11th.
Having always loved the Russian language, the award from the "My Favorite Book" competition further fueled Hung's passion for the language.
Sharing his experience learning Russian, Hung said it's an interesting language but also presents many challenges due to its grammar, phonetics, and pronunciation. However, this only strengthens his resolve to conquer this foreign language. In the near future, Hung plans to apply to the Russian language departments at Hanoi University or the Foreign Trade University and strive to improve his Russian skills to win a scholarship.
The "My Favorite Book" contest is organized by the Russian World Foundation, Pushkin Institute Branch, and supported by the High School of the Russian Embassy in Vietnam. The contest is open to Vietnamese students studying at high schools, universities, academies, colleges, and vocational schools nationwide. The competition consists of three rounds: the preliminary round, held from September 1st to October 10th at various schools; the semi-final round, held from October 11th to October 25th; and the final round, held on November 10th at the Pushkin Institute. The awards ceremony will take place at 9:00 AM on November 11th at the Pushkin Institute, Hanoi. In addition to one first prize, two second prizes, and two third prizes, the organizers will also award prizes for the most impressive essay and the best essay to the participating contestants. |
