A 3cm fish bone was lodged in the throat for over two months before it was discovered.

(Baonghean.vn) - The Ear, Nose, and Throat Department of Nghe An General Hospital reported that they recently admitted and treated patient Nguyen Xuan Quang, who suffered from a neck abscess caused by a fish bone lodged in his throat. A remarkable aspect of this case is that the abscess only developed as a complication nearly three months after the patient was diagnosed.

Earlier, in early March 2016, during lunch, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Quang (59 years old, Quy Hop) choked on a fish bone. After many attempts to remove the foreign object from his throat, the initial sharp pain subsided, and due to his reluctance to go to the hospital, Mr. Quang quickly returned to his daily life and forgot about the fish bone that had just gotten stuck.

Patient Quang is receiving post-operative treatment for a neck abscess at the Ear, Nose, and Throat department.

By early May, Mr. Quang developed symptoms of increasingly severe neck swelling, enlarged submandibular lymph nodes; painful eating and speaking, difficulty turning his head and rotating his neck. On May 11th, Mr. Quang was transferred to Nghe An General Hospital. Diagnosed with a left paracervical abscess with diffuse swelling, the ENT doctors decided to perform emergency surgery to drain the abscess in the neck area.

During the treatment process, a fish bone fragment, over 3cm long, that had pierced the esophagus and caused an abscess was removed from patient Quang's neck by the doctors.
