After 45 years of construction and development, with the continuous efforts of generations of cadres, members, volunteers, youth, etc., the Nghe An Provincial Red Cross Society (CRS) has truly become a "bridge and coordinator" in emergency relief and humanitarian aid activities in the locality.

Proud achievements

Nghe An Provincial Red Cross Society was established on August 14, 1979. After 45 years of development and growth, the Provincial Red Cross Society has always played a core role, connecting and coordinating humanitarian activities. The province currently has 480 associations at commune, ward and town levels; 386 associations of agencies, universities, colleges, vocational schools, high schools, secondary schools, and enterprises; 4,941 branches; with 69,661 members, 76,725 youth, and 8,827 volunteers.

The Red Cross Associations at all levels in Nghe An province inherit and promote the tradition of the Vietnam Red Cross Association, always closely following the political tasks of the province and the goals and tasks of the organization, carrying out many practical activities, demonstrating the core, bridging and coordinating role in humanitarian activities; participating in effectively implementing the social security policies of the Party and the State.

In the "Humane Tet" movement, the whole association coordinated with departments, branches, organizations, and sponsors to mobilize and organize the giving of 422,267 gifts, worth more than 208 billion VND, exceeding the assigned target; contributing to bringing a warm and happy Tet to the poor in the province.

The campaign "Each organization, each individual is associated with a humanitarian address", with the creative approach of the association at all levels, has helped 92,168 humanitarian addresses, worth 68.3 billion VND.

The “Cow Bank” project has been implemented since 2008 and has been expanded throughout the province. The project has been implemented effectively, helping people escape poverty and take control of their lives. The associations at all levels have called for support and provided breeding cows from organizations and individuals and given over 1,000 breeding cows to poor families in especially difficult circumstances in mountainous districts, remote areas, and border areas; with a total value of over 1 billion VND. The total number of breeding cows supported to date is 1,850.

The emergency support activities were carried out promptly and to the right target by all levels of the association. Accordingly, 45,215 people in distress and risk were supported with money and goods; worth more than 13 billion VND. Regular support was provided to over 25,000 people in particularly difficult circumstances through the following forms: building charity houses, granting scholarships, granting insurance cards, medical examination and treatment, and supporting production capital.

In particular, since 2018, the province has implemented the “Humanitarian Month”, in which May every year becomes the peak month for the whole population to do humanitarian work; spreading the value of humanity in the community in accordance with the theme “Connect, share and spread”. Every year, the association mobilizes to build houses, give gifts, and provide livelihoods with a total value of more than 26 billion VND.

“Red Cross for everyone, everywhere”

One of the outstanding activities of the Provincial Red Cross Association in recent years is to effectively carry out propaganda and mobilize people to participate in voluntary blood donation. Thanks to that, voluntary blood donation has achieved high results, promptly meeting the blood needs for emergency and patient treatment.

Through voluntary blood donation programs such as: "Red Journey"; "Red Sunday", "Pink Spring Festival", "Pink Drops in White Blouse" every year, a large number of volunteers have participated. Voluntary blood donation clubs and rare blood bank clubs continue to be maintained and operate effectively, promptly meeting the blood needs of hospitals when needed. Up to now, the whole province has 25 voluntary blood donation clubs with 345 members, including 1 rare blood group club. The total number of blood units received from 2008 to 2023 reached 368,925 units.

In addition, responding to the Campaign "Humanitarian medical examination and treatment, community health care" launched annually by the Central Association, the Provincial Red Cross Association directed districts to carry out health care work for the people. Over the past 15 years, the association has coordinated with relevant agencies and units, such as Vinh International Hospital, Vinh Medical University, district hospitals, enterprises... to organize medical examinations, provide free medicine, and perform eye surgeries for more than 309,234 poor people, policy beneficiaries, and people in difficult circumstances; and donated 1,264 wheelchairs to people with disabilities.

To achieve the above results, the Red Cross at all levels has demonstrated its core role as a bridge and coordinator in humanitarian activities. From mainly distributing relief goods, humanitarian activities have now been diversified through the implementation of 7 fields of activities stipulated in the Law on Red Cross Activities. Since then, the association has built many new models, implemented many programs and projects funded by international organizations; the linkage with other provinces has become increasingly effective. The associations at all levels have also effectively implemented major movements and campaigns launched by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross, creating a widespread impact and receiving active responses from organizations and individuals.

In recognition of the great contributions of the Provincial Red Cross Society over the past 45 years, the Party, the State and all levels and sectors have awarded many noble prizes. In particular, the Society was honored to receive the Third Class Labor Medal from the President; the Central Emulation Flag from the Society; and 2 Emulation Flags from the People's Committee of Nghe An Province. In 2018, the Prime Minister was proposed to award the Emulation Flag for outstanding achievements in the work of the Society and the Red Cross movement.

Looking back on the 45 years of construction and development, we are very proud of the achievements of the Provincial Red Cross. It is the process of striving, training and dedication of all cadres, members, volunteers, youth and teenagers of the Provincial Red Cross, along with the effective coordination of charitable organizations in the province, in the country and international friends.
