In his opening remarks at the conference, the Prime Minister of the host country and Chairman of the ASEAN Summit, Mr. Najib Razak, stated that ASEAN leaders would officially declare the establishment of the ASEAN Community on November 22nd and on December 31st, affirming that this is the result of decades of efforts to integrate, unite, and progress together.

With the theme “Our People, Our Community, Our Vision,” the agenda of ASEAN 27 focused on the formal establishment of the ASEAN Community, and continued deep integration through the three pillars of the ASEAN Security Community (ASC), the ASEAN Economic Community (ASC), and the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC).

At this conference, ASEAN leaders will discuss and sign the Kuala Lumpur Declaration 2015 on the establishment of a common community, sign the Kuala Lumpur Declaration on the ASEAN Vision 2025, and exchange views on regional and international issues of common concern.

It is expected that on November 21st and 22nd, at the ASEAN Summit with dialogue partners, leaders will discuss future partnership cooperation in the fields of security, economy, and culture.

ASEAN leaders will also exchange views on issues of common concern such as the South China Sea, terrorism, and environmental issues.

Established in 1967, ASEAN comprises Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Brunei, Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, and Myanmar.
