Nghe An Elderly Association has a new president

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of September 22, the Nghe An Association of the Elderly held the 2nd Congress of the Association of the Elderly for the 2016-2021 term.

Attending and directing the congress was Dr. Dam Huu Dac, Permanent Vice President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly.

On the side of Nghe An province, there were comrade Nguyen Van Thong - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, comrades who are members of the Provincial Party Standing Committee: Cao Thi Hien - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; Le Xuan Dai - Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee and 150 delegates representing more than 357,000 members of the Association of the Elderly in the whole province.

After more than twenty years of establishment, the Nghe An Association of the Elderly has been consolidated at all three levels with 5,892 grassroots branches. During the past term, the Nghe An Association of the Elderly has promoted the Emulation Movement "Old Age - Bright Example" in three aspects of activities: caring for the elderly, promoting the role of the elderly and building a strong association organization.

The association at all levels has established over 4,000 elderly clubs; built a fund to care for and promote the role of the elderly at the grassroots level with a total mobilized amount of over 61 billion VND.

In addition, the Association has also organized many meaningful activities such as the program "Bright eyes for the elderly", "Elderly people participate in environmental protection and new rural construction". Every year, 50-55% of the elderly participate in production, business and service labor. More than 10,000 elderly people have achieved the title of excellent elderly producers at all levels.

Speaking at the Congress, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Xuan Dai highly appreciated the efforts of the Nghe An Association of the Elderly over the past five years; suggested that the Association continue to promote emulation movements and build typical examples to replicate and spread among the elderly and the whole society.

In addition, the Association needs to advise and proactively coordinate with sectors to socialize the work of caring for the elderly, especially the disabled, lonely, and homeless; build and manage well the care fund and promote the role of the elderly at all levels; take care of building a strong association organization, continue to innovate the content and methods of operation, and strongly direct the association's activities to the grassroots level of communes, wards, and towns.

The Bright Eyes Program for the Elderly is a breakthrough of the Nghe An Elderly Association in the 2011 - 2016 term.

The Congress elected a new Executive Committee with 23 members and elected 7 people to attend the 5th National Congress of the Elderly Association. Mr. Cao Dang Vinh - former Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism was elected as Chairman of the Elderly Association of Nghe An province for the 2016 - 2021 term.

The Executive Committee of the Elderly Association, Term II, was introduced to the congress.

On this occasion, the Prime Minister awarded Certificates of Merit to 4 collectives and 3 individuals for their outstanding achievements in the Emulation Movement "Old Age - Bright Example".
