The Nghe An Association of Elderly People has a new chairman.

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of September 22nd, the Nghe An Association of Elderly People held its Second Congress of Delegates for the 2016-2021 term.

Dr. Dam Huu Dac, Standing Vice President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly, attended and directed the congress.

Representing Nghe An province were Comrade Nguyen Van Thong - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, and members of the Provincial Party Standing Committee: Cao Thi Hien - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; Le Xuan Dai - Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; and 150 delegates representing over 357,000 members of the Association of Elderly People throughout the province.

After more than twenty years since its establishment, the Nghe An Association of Elderly People has been consolidated at all three levels with 5892 grassroots branches. During the past term, the Nghe An Association of Elderly People has promoted the "Elderly - Shining Examples" emulation movement in three areas of activity: caring for the elderly, promoting the role of the elderly, and building a strong association organization.

The various levels of the association have established over 4,000 senior citizen clubs; and built a fund for caring for and promoting the role of the elderly at the grassroots level, with a total amount of over 61 billion VND raised.

In addition, the Association has organized many meaningful activities such as the "Bright Eyes for the Elderly" program and the "Elderly Participating in Environmental Protection and Building New Rural Areas" program. Annually, 50-55% of the elderly participate in labor, production, business, and services. More than 10,000 elderly people have received the title of "Excellent Elderly Producer" at various levels.

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Xuan Dai delivered a speech at the congress.

Speaking at the Congress, Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Xuan Dai highly appreciated the efforts of the Nghe An Senior Citizens Association over the past five years; and requested the Association to continue promoting emulation movements and building exemplary models to replicate and spread among senior citizens and the entire society.

Awards and certificates of merit were presented to outstanding groups and individuals.

In addition, the Association needs to advise and proactively coordinate with relevant sectors to socialize the care of the elderly, especially the disabled, the lonely, and those without support; build and manage the fund for care and support and promote the role of the elderly at all levels; focus on building a strong association organization, continue to innovate the content and methods of operation, and strongly direct the association's activities towards the grassroots level in communes, wards, and towns.

The "Bright Eyes for the Elderly" program was a breakthrough for the Nghe An Elderly Association during the 2011-2016 term.

The congress elected a new Executive Committee with 23 members and elected 7 delegates to attend the 5th National Congress of the Association of Elderly People. Mr. Cao Dang Vinh - former Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism - was elected Chairman of the Nghe An Provincial Association of Elderly People for the 2016-2021 term.

The Executive Committee of the Senior Citizens Association, second term, was introduced at the congress.

On this occasion, the Prime Minister awarded Certificates of Commendation to 4 collectives and 3 individuals for their outstanding achievements in the "Elderly - Shining Examples" Emulation Movement.
