Seminar “New Features of the 2015 Penal Code”
(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of August 2nd, in Cua Lo town, the Institute of Legislative Research under the Standing Committee of the National Assembly, in coordination with the US Agency for International Development, organized a workshop entitled "New Points of the 2015 Penal Code (amended in 2017) and its Implementation".
The workshop was chaired by Dr. Nguyen Dinh Quyen, Director of the Institute of Legislative Research. Attendees included representatives from the Department of Legal Affairs and Administrative Procedure Reform - Ministry of Public Security, the National Assembly delegation, the People's Procuracy, the People's Court, the Bar Association, the police forces of Nghe An, Ha Tinh, and Ninh Binh provinces; experts from several universities and law firms.

Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hien, Deputy Head of the National Assembly Delegation of Nghe An province, highlighted the potential and strengths of the locality in socio-economic development, national defense and security; and also reported on the situation of law enforcement in the province in the past period.
Besides affirming that the 2015 Criminal Code, amended in 2017 and effective from January 1, 2018, represents a significant development in the State's criminal policy, the workshop also heard nine presentations from experts from Law Universities, the Procuracy University of Hanoi, the People's Procuracy, and law firms.

This includes focusing on criminal regulations within the general components of the Penal Code, crimes against the administration of justice; new points regarding crimes against human dignity and honor, mitigating and aggravating circumstances; crimes against property, new points regarding drug-related crimes; new content in the group of public safety crimes; new points regarding the death penalty as stipulated in the 2015 Penal Code amended in 2017...
The purpose of organizing this seminar is to help National Assembly delegates, experts, scientists, managers, and practitioners in the field of criminal justice exchange and discuss to clarify the viewpoints, spirit, and content of the reforms in the Code. This will contribute to improving the quality of legislative activities, investigation, prosecution, litigation, and teaching in accordance with the spirit of judicial reform outlined in Resolution No. 49-NQ/TW.
