Seminar 'Literature and Art of Nghe An 1975 – 2025: Achievements and Challenges'

On the morning of April 22nd, in Vinh City, the Nghe An Union of Literature and Arts, in collaboration with the Central Theoretical Council, organized a scientific conference titled "Literature and Arts of Nghe An 1975 – 2025: Achievements and Challenges".

Attending the seminar, from the central level were Dr. Doan Thanh No - Standing Vice President of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Khanh Thanh - Member of the Central Theoretical Council; Major General, Dr. Pham Hong Thai - Chairman of the Inspection Committee of the Vietnam Writers Association.

Representing Nghe An province were: Ms. Vo Thi Minh Sinh – Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairwoman of the Provincial Fatherland Front Committee, and Head of the Provincial National Assembly Delegation; and members of the Provincial Party Committee: Mr. Bui Dinh Long – Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Mr. Nguyen Nhu Khoi – Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; and Ms. Tran Thi My Hanh – Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Also attending were Mr. Ho Mau Thanh - Chairman of the Provincial Union of Literature and Arts Associations; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dinh Tri Dung - Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial Union of Literature and Arts Associations; Ms. Pham Thuy Vinh - Vice Chairman of the Provincial Union of Literature and Arts Associations, Editor-in-Chief of Song Lam Magazine, and artists, literary and art researchers from within and outside the province.

Building and developing the people and culture of Nghe An.

Presenting the introductory report, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dinh Tri Dung – Vice ChairmanUnion of Literature and ArtsNghe An stated: Nghe An is a large province in the North Central region of Vietnam. It is not only a borderland of Vietnam during the resistance wars against invaders, but also an ancient land rich in cultural, literary, and artistic traditions. Since the medieval period, it has produced many famous figures and renowned scholars of literature and poetry such as Phan Thuc Truc, Ho Sy Duong, Pham Nguyen Du, Ho Xuan Huong…

This place is also the birthplace of the national liberation hero and outstanding cultural figure Ho Chi Minh; the patriotic scholar and poet of "stirring verses" Phan Boi Chau. In modern times, many excellent writers, poets, and artists have also emerged here, such as Dang Thai Mai, Hoai Thanh, Hoang Trung Thong, Minh Hue, Tran Huu Thung, Nguyen Minh Chau, Le Van Mien, Nguyen Tai Tue, An Thuyen, Nguyen Trong Tao…

In the process of building and developing Nghe An into a prosperous province of the country, the Party Committee and all levels of government in Nghe An have always paid attention to building culture and people, promoting the positive aspects of their character.people of Nghe An, meeting the requirements of sustainable development of our homeland and country.

Following the directives of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department, the Nghe An Provincial Party Committee, and the Nghe An Provincial People's Committee regarding the organization of activities to summarize 50 years of Vietnamese literature and art after the reunification of the country, the Nghe An Provincial Union of Literature and Arts has developed a plan to organize a scientific conference entitled "Nghe An Literature and Art 1975-2025: Achievements and Challenges".

The workshop brought together 32 presentations focusing on two main topics:The first,This study surveys and evaluates the characteristics, achievements, and contributions of half a century of Nghe An's literature and art since 1975 to the national literature and art scene, especially to the homeland, to the cause of reform, and to the building and development of Nghe An's people and culture.Monday,The exhibition delves into the stylistic characteristics, unique features, and contributions of several authors to the literature and art of Nghe An. In addition to articles on literature, some papers review and evaluate the successes and contributions of various art forms in Nghe An over the 50 years since 1975, such as theater, fine arts, music, and photography.

Many challenges in the new era

In her welcoming remarks at the conference, Comrade Tran Thi My Hanh - Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism - emphasized: The conference is an opportunity to look back and affirm the great achievements and contributions of Nghe An's literature and art to the development of literature and art nationwide; at the same time, it also draws lessons and identifies limitations and shortcomings, and proposes directions to further develop Nghe An's literature and art in the new era, the era of national progress.

We must frankly acknowledge that, despite many successes and positive developments over the past 50 years, especially in recent years, Nghe An's literature and arts still face many challenges: the management mechanism for literature and arts is slow to innovate and has not created a favorable environment to foster creativity; the aging of the workforce and the shortage of successors in many specialties; and the discovery and nurturing of young talents.artistsIn mountainous, remote, and isolated areas, there are still many limitations...

At the conference, delegates presented numerous opinions and discussions revolving around the following issues: Outstanding achievements, contributions, and trends in the development of literature and art in Nghe An over the past 50 years (1975-2025) within the overall context of Vietnamese literature and art; Representative authors and works of Nghe An literature and art; Theoretical and practical issues, challenges, and solutions for the sustainable development of Nghe An literature and art...

Speaking at the seminar, Ms. Vo Thi Minh Sinh – Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairwoman of the Provincial Fatherland Front Committee, and Head of the Provincial National Assembly Delegation – expressed her hope that artists and writers in Nghe An would continue to promote creativity and engage with real life to create valuable works that leave a mark on the flow of national literature and art.

In his concluding remarks at the seminar, Mr. Ho Mau Thanh – Chairman of the Nghe An Union of Literature and Arts – affirmed that the 50 years of literature and art in Nghe An since the reunification of the country has been a continuous flow, leaving behind many great successes; contributing to building and protecting the Fatherland, building human character, protecting the ideological foundation of the Party, and affirming the achievements of the reform policies led by the Party.

With an increasingly powerful creative force, a vast and diverse body of work, and innovative and creative art, it deserves to be considered an important part of the nation-building process.

The Chairman of the Provincial Association of Literature and Arts also pointed out several shortcomings that need to be addressed, such as: A lack of major works commensurate with the development trends of the people of Nghe An over the past 50 years; the absence of film; the underutilization of dance; the underdeveloped state of literature in mountainous regions; a high percentage of older members, while the number and strength of young writers are still small; and topicality overshadows artistic merit...
