“Reminiscences & Reflections”, Gorbachev talks about the collapse of the Soviet Union
In the book series “Reminiscences & Reflections”, Mikhail Gorbachev tells about his tumultuous life and offers a series of views on issues of Russia's past and future.
Gorbachev is one of two figures who played a particularly important role in shaping the current face of Russia and the former Soviet Union countries.
Mikhail Sergeyvich Gorbachev (born March 2, 1931) led the Soviet Union from 1985 to 1991, and was the last leader of the former Soviet Union. Gorbachev's efforts contributed to the end of the Cold War, and he received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1990.

His two-volume memoir has just been published in Vietnam, translated by Nguyen Thi Binh and Pham Hong Anh.
In the bookMy Life - Reminiscences & Reflections IGorbachev devoted nearly 600 pages to recounting his turbulent life. His childhood was associated with the village of Stavropol, with famine and fierce war years. His youth at the university, where he met his wife Raisa, was also recounted.
The politician also recalled the journey of nation building and the many difficulties and obstacles he encountered. Gorbachev was elected General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union on March 11, 1985, at the age of 54. He became the first leader of the party born after the Russian Revolution of 1917.
Through the book, Gorbachev shows himself to be a leader with innovative thinking, with many thoughts and concerns about the path of reform and development of the country, as well as many macro issues of the world. Although these are subjective comments, his messages leave many thoughts for readers.
“I think this time I have succeeded in telling the whole story of my life,” he said. “This is my answer to the question about the circumstances that had a very important influence on my political career.”
Through his writings, he also provides a lot of information for readers to understand more about the culture, ethnicity, history, and geography of Russia and neighboring regions.

In the bookMy Country and the World - Reminiscences & Reflections IIMikhail Gorbachev addressed a series of issues from Russia's past, present and future in relation to the world.
Based on his own experiences, historical documents, and reflections on political issues, he gives his views on major events such as the October Revolution, the collapse of the Soviet Union, and key figures of the Soviet Union.
In his memoirs, Gorbachev also expressed his thoughts on the future of Russia, the problems of the world's largest country in the next century. He proposed ways to achieve economic and political reforms.
Gorbachev devoted a section to the role of “new thinking” on a range of issues. He wrote in the book: “I emphasize the international political aspect of new thinking, because global problems are among the most important problems that humanity will have to face in its transition to a new form of existence.”
“It is important that everyone pursues a common goal: truly renewing the life of the entire world community to achieve new living conditions for humanity,” he affirmed.
