Mikhail Sergeyevich Gorbachev (born March 2, 1931) led the Soviet Union from 1985 to 1991, and was the last leader of the former Soviet Union. Gorbachev's efforts contributed to ending the Cold War, and he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1990.

In the bookMy Life - Recollections & Reflections IGorbachev devoted nearly 600 pages to recounting his tumultuous life. His childhood was spent in the village of Stavropol, marked by famine and the brutal years of war. His youth at university, where he met his wife Raisa, is also described.
The politician recalled his journey in nation-building, along with the many difficulties and setbacks he encountered. Gorbachev was elected General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union on March 11, 1985, at the age of 54. He became the first leader of the party born after the 1917 Russian Revolution.
Through this book, Gorbachev demonstrates himself as an innovative leader, with many thoughtful reflections on the path of national reform and development, as well as many macroeconomic issues facing the world. Although these are subjective opinions, his messages leave readers with much to ponder.
He shared: "I think this time I've succeeded in telling the whole story of my life. This is my answer to the question about the circumstances that have had such a profound influence on my political career."
Through his writings, he also provides a wealth of information to help readers better understand the culture, ethnicity, history, and geography of Russia and its surrounding regions.

In his memoirs, Gorbachev also expressed his thoughts on the future of Russia, the problems facing the world's largest country in the following century. He proposed ways to achieve economic and political reforms.
Gorbachev dedicated a section to discussing the role of "new thinking" in relation to a range of issues. He wrote in the book: "I emphasize the international political aspect of new thinking, because global issues are among the most important problems that humanity will face in the process of transitioning to a new form of existence."
"It is crucial that everyone pursues a common goal: to genuinely transform the lives of the entire global community in order to achieve new living conditions for humanity," he asserted.
