International driving license officially issued today
Starting today (November 3), the Vietnam Road Administration officially issues international driving licenses to citizens in need. This driving license will be valid in 85 countries around the world.
According to Circular 29/2015/TT-BGTVT on the issuance and use of international driving licenses, which officially took effect from October 1, Vietnamese or foreigners (with permanent residence cards in Vietnam) who need it only need to fill out an application form and bring their driving license and passport to the issuance and exchange points to complete the procedure. The fee is 150,000 VND.

The application for an international driving license must include a current driving license issued by a competent authority of Vietnam and an application for an international driving license. Within 5 days of receiving a valid application, the competent authority will issue the international driving license to the person upon request.
International driving licenses issued to Vietnamese citizens will be valid for legal use in 85 countries participating in the 1968 Vienna Convention on Road Traffic and the Convention on Road Signs and Signals (referred to as the Vienna Convention).
The driving license will clearly state which type of car or motorbike the person with the international driving license is allowed to drive. The international driving license is valid according to the general regulations of the convention from 1 to 3 years. The driving license is printed in 4 basic languages: English, French, Russian, Spanish and the language of the country that issued the driving license.
It is known that the Vietnam Road Administration and the two cities of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City will pilot the issuance of international driving licenses for 1 month, then deploy it to all provinces/cities across the country.
