Today, the appeal trial of the case of importing fake cancer drugs

This is a case that has caused a stir in public opinion because of the act of importing fake cancer drugs to bid and sell at hospitals.

This morning (October 19), the High People's Court in Ho Chi Minh City will bring the case of smuggling and forging documents and seals of organizations that occurred at VN Pharma Joint Stock Company to the appeal trial.

Previously, at the end of August, the People's Court of Ho Chi Minh City sentenced defendants Nguyen Minh Hung (former Chairman of the Board of Directors and General Director of VN Pharma Joint Stock Company) and Vo Manh Cuong (Director of H&C International Maritime Trading Company Limited) to 12 years in prison for "Smuggling".

The accomplices were sentenced to between 2 years in prison with suspended sentences and 5 years in prison for the crimes of "Smuggling" and "Forgery of seals and documents of organizations". In addition to this sentence, the People's Court of Ho Chi Minh City also recommended that the competent authority investigate and clarify the responsibilities of a number of related individuals, clarify the responsibilities of officials of the Drug Administration Department under the Ministry of Health, and recommend investigating and clarifying the payment of commissions to doctors.

However, after this verdict, public opinion and many experts disagreed, saying that the court's verdict did not match the crime, and the sentence was not commensurate with the defendants' criminal acts. In addition, the responsibility of the leaders of the Drug Administration Department has not been properly considered and handled.

Afterwards, the High People's Procuracy in Ho Chi Minh City issued a decision to appeal the appeal in the direction of requesting the court at the same level to cancel the first instance judgment that the Ho Chi Minh City People's Court had issued for reinvestigation. The defendants in the case also filed an appeal claiming their innocence, asking for a reduction in their sentences and requesting the appellate court to review the nature of the case.
