Vietnamese homestays receive ASEAN award for the first time.
Three homestay clusters in Bac Ha, Mai Chau, and Hoi An were awarded the ASEAN Homestay Accommodation Prize.
In 2016, Vietnam had 34 tourist accommodation establishments awarded the ASEAN Green Label. This was also the first year that Vietnam had 3 clusters of houses with rooms for rent to tourists awarded the ASEAN award.

The ASEAN Green Hotel Standards were developed by ASEAN member countries starting in 2006 and announced in two phases: the first in Thailand in 2008 and the second in Brunei in 2012. Each year, 10 accommodation establishments from each member country are nominated for this award.
The ASEAN Homestay Standards were developed by member countries in 2011 and published in 2012. Each year, five ASEAN homestay clusters, each with at least five homestays from each member country, are nominated for this award.

For hotels to be awarded the ASEAN Green Label, they must meet standards such as having environmental policies and measures in their operations, using green products, managing solid waste, using water efficiently, managing air quality, and controlling noise pollution. Homestays in ASEAN countries that offer rooms for rent to tourists must meet standards regarding room service, management, proximity to tourist attractions, security, safety, and sustainability principles. |
