(Baonghean.vn) - Although it is no longer raining, the flood situation in Hung Nguyen, especially in the communes outside the dike, is very complicated. About 1,100 people in the hamlets outside the dike are completely isolated.

Mr. Dang Thai Yen - Secretary of the Party Committee of Hung Lam commune said: Although it is not raining now, the flood situation is still very complicated, because water from the upstream of Lam River and La River (Ha Tinh) is pouring in, causing the water level in the downstream of Lam River to rise. Currently, 3/10 hamlets outside the dike of the commune are completely isolated, students cannot go to school yet.

Rising water levels have isolated nine hamlets in the communes outside the dike of Hung Nguyen.

“Because the floodwaters were higher than the railings of Hung Lam bridge, we had to assign people to stand guard at both ends of the village to prevent people from moving around. Previously, on October 15 and 16, the provincial Flood and Storm Prevention Command had a plan to evacuate the elderly and children, so there were no casualties during the heavy rain.”

According to Mr. Ngo Phu Han - Chairman of Hung Nguyen District People's Committee, due to the influence of the tropical depression, on October 14 and 15, there was very heavy rain in the district, causing severe damage to agricultural production. Although the District People's Committee has deployed natural disaster prevention plans according to the instructions of the superiors, however, due to heavy rain over a large area combined with the rapidly rising Lam River, it has caused quite heavy damage in the area and 1 person has died.

Mr. Hoang Duc An - Head of the district's agricultural department said that if the water level continues to rise, storm number 7 will put people in areas outside the dike at risk of having to evacuate.

In addition, level 1 and level 2 irrigation canals were damaged by landslides in many communes with a length of more than 10 km; riverbank landslides in Hung Lam commune with a length of 800 m. Many roads were flooded and severely damaged with a length of more than 5 km.

“Currently, the water is deep, so we have not yet fully assessed the damage. Floodwater continues to overflow the dike and flow onto the road. The danger is that there are 9 hamlets in communes outside the dike such as Hung Lam, Hung Long, Hung Nhan, Hung Chau, Hung Loi, Hung Linh,... with 1,100 people isolated and 20 hamlets are heavily flooded. If storm No. 7 enters, there is a risk of having to evacuate all people outside the dike,” Mr. Hoang Duc An added./.
