(Baonghean.vn) - Nghe An province currently has 26,500 hectares of sugarcane, in the seedling and tillering stage, of which more than 1,300 hectares have been infected with sugarcane grassy shoot disease.

Over 1,300 hectares of sugarcane, mainly in Tan Ky district and currently in the seedling and tillering stage, are being affected by sugarcane grassy shoot disease.

The province's sugarcane growing area currently covers 26,500 hectares, currently in the seedling and tillering stage. According to a report from the Provincial Plant Protection Sub-Department, more than 1,300 hectares of sugarcane have been infected with sugarcane grassy shoot disease, mainly in Tan Ky district. Of these, 185 hectares are moderately to severely infected.

In addition, some sugarcane fields of about 4 hectares in Tan Ky are also infested with beetles, with a density of 5-6 beetles per hole, and sugarcane borers at a rate of 5-10%.

According to the provincial Plant Protection Department's assessment, the area and severity of sugarcane infected with sugarcane grassy shoot disease are currently low compared to previous years. However, localities are stepping up propaganda and guidance for farmers to implement control measures against sugarcane grassy shoot disease and other pests and diseases, aiming to control the disease in a limited area.
