An officer from the 22nd Motorized Rifle Regiment of the Northern Group of Forces, codenamed Vityaz, told RIA Novosti that a unit of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, numbering over 100 men, has been surrounded west of Sudzha in the Kursk region.

"A Ukrainian unit of over 100 men is surrounded west of Sudzha. Artillery is bombarding them. It's a real cauldron. No one will escape," Vityaz said.

Last weekend, the Russian army launched a large-scale offensive in the Kursk region and, in just a few days, liberated more than 1,100 square kilometers of territory occupied by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, including the villages of Staraya Sorochina, Malaya Loknya, Cherkasskoye Porechnoye, Martynovka, and Mikhailovka.

On March 13, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported to President Vladimir Putin on the liberation of the central Sudzha region.

The Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, General Gerasimov, stated that Ukrainian armed forces in the Kursk region have been isolated and are being systematically destroyed. Russian servicemen from the Kursk border region have crossed the national border in several directions and advanced into the Sumy region of Ukraine.

The head of state noted that while the Ukrainian armed forces previously left the Kursk region in large groups, this is no longer feasible. He also suggested considering the establishment of a security zone along the state border.

On the Ukrainian side, President Volodymyr Zelensky declared on March 14 that the objectives of the Ukrainian army's offensive in Kursk had been achieved.

Commenting on this statement, Glenn Diesen, a professor at the University of South-East Norway, said that Zelensky's statements are becoming increasingly absurd as the pressure on him continues to mount.

"While the war is losing, the language is becoming increasingly absurd. Pressure on Zelensky is mounting, and a coup could soon occur," Professor Diesen stated.
