For every 100 urban youths, 11 are unemployed. This figure was recently released by the General Statistics Office at a press conference announcing the socio-economic situation for the first nine months of this year.
Accordingly, the unemployment rate for young people (aged 15-24) in the first nine months of the year was 7.04%, three times higher than the overall rate, with 11.65% in urban areas and 5.27% in rural areas. Many experts believe that the risk of unemployment for young workers is at an alarming level. This also highlights the important role of education and training, as well as the necessity of shifting the workforce from school to the workplace.
As of October this year, the national labor force aged 15 and over is estimated at over 54 million people, a 0.2% increase compared to the same period last year. Of these, over 67% are in rural areas.
