Over 14 years in prison for group of men who beat a man to death.

(Baonghean.vn) - Due to a minor disagreement while sitting around, a group of individuals assaulted Mr. Le Huu Anh, residing in Hamlet 11, Quang Son Commune, Do Luong District.This resulted in death.

On June 24th, the People's Court of Do Luong District held a first-instance criminal trial against: Hoang Van Trung (born 1988), Nguyen Van Linh (born 1994), Hoang Dinh Giap (born 1994) for the crime of intentionally causing injury; Dang Quang Kien (born 1992), Dang Quang Sao (born 1993), and Hoang Van Tuan (born 1992), all residing in Thai Son commune, Do Luong district, for the crime of "disturbing public order".

Earlier, at around 12:20 PM on January 25, 2016, the six individuals went to Thanh Cong restaurant in Hamlet 11, Quang Son Commune, Do Luong District to eat. At 1:20 PM the same day, the group sat together warming themselves around a wood-burning stove in front of the restaurant.

At that time, Le Huu Anh (born in 1987, residing in Hamlet 11, Quang Son Commune, Do Luong District) arrived and sat down to warm himself. There, Le Huu Anh borrowed a pipe from everyone to smoke tobacco, and Linh gave him a pipe. During the conversation, Anh got into an argument with the group, and the two sides started fighting.

During the fight, Linh snatched the pipe from Anh's hand and hit him on the left shoulder. With the intervention of the shop owner, Anh managed to run to the road and to the Quang Son commune health station, where he continued to throw bricks at the attackers. The group then chased after Anh and attacked him again, causing serious injuries that required him to be rushed to the Nghe An Provincial General Hospital for emergency treatment.

On January 28, 2016, due to the severity of her injuries, Anh passed away. After the crime, the defendants' families met with the victim's family, and both sides negotiated and agreed to compensate the victim's family with 320 million VND.

At the trial, the court acknowledged the seriousness of the defendants' actions, but also noted that the victim was partly at fault. The defendants also showed remorse, so the court sentenced them as follows: Hoang Van Trung to 66 months imprisonment; Nguyen Van Linh and Hoang Dinh Giap each to 40 months imprisonment; Dang Quang Sao and Hoang Van Tuan each to 12 months imprisonment, but with a suspended sentence and a 24-month probation period.
