Over 3,000 athletes participated in the "Following in the Footsteps of Uncle Ho - For National Security" running event in Nghe An.
On the morning of May 2nd, over 3,000 athletes participated in the "Following in the Footsteps of Uncle Ho - For National Security" running race in 2026, with the race route starting from Ho Chi Minh Square (Truong Vinh Ward, Nghe An Province).
This is the second time the "Following in the Footsteps of Uncle Ho - For National Security" running event has been held in Nghe An. Previously, in 2025, the event was successfully organized, attracting over 2,100 enthusiastic participants and creating a positive mark in the national sports movement.
This year, with over 3,000 athletes, the tournament is more impressive than ever in terms of both scale and organization. Athletes competed in five distances: 800m (family run), 5km, 10km, 21km half marathon, and 42km marathon. The 21km and 42km half marathon events included pacers.
The 42km marathon was the highlight, attracting experienced and highly skilled runners. In the longest and most demanding distance of the race, athlete Le Van Huong excelled, winning the championship. Le Van Huong demonstrated superior physical fitness and strategy by maintaining a steady pace for most of the distance, before accelerating strongly in the final kilometers to finish first.
In addition, the organizing committee also determined the champions of the 5km, 10km, and 21km half-marathon events at this year's race.
The organizing committee assessed that holding the "Following in the Footsteps of Uncle Ho - For National Security" running event in Nghe An - the birthplace of President Ho Chi Minh - in 2026 has created a special mark, not only in terms of sports but also with profound spiritual significance. Through this event, the running aims to inspire and spread the practical study and emulation of Ho Chi Minh's ideology, ethics, and style in daily life.
According to the organizing committee, through this tournament, the Vietnam People's Police Sports Association hopes to convey a message about physical training linked to the courage and willpower of People's Police officers; and at the same time contribute to promoting the development of the sports training movement in the community.
