Over 3,200 inmates at Prison No. 6 wrote letters of apology.

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of January 8th, Prison No. 6 (General Department VIII - Ministry of Public Security) held the 2016 Prisoner Family Conference and reviewed the results of the "Sending Apologies" letter-writing campaign.

Attending the conference was Major General Do Ta Hao - Director of the Department of Education, Rehabilitation and Community Reintegration (C86) - General Department VIII, Ministry of Public Security.

The conference was also attended by 120 delegates representing the families of inmates whose children are serving sentences at Prison No. 6, along with 400 inmates, representing more than 4,200 inmates currently serving sentences at Prison No. 6 located in Hanh Lam commune (Thanh Chuong district).

The "Inmate's Family Conference" is an opportunity for inmates to meet and share their thoughts and feelings with their relatives, thereby gaining more motivation to reform well and return to their families sooner. Through this conference, the relatives of inmates also gain a better understanding of the policies and regulations concerning their children in prison.

On this occasion, Prison No. 6 held a preliminary review of the "Letter of Apology" campaign launched by General Department VIII (Ministry of Public Security). Responding to the campaign, Prison No. 6 received 3,216 "Letters of Apology" written by inmates, accounting for 83% of the total number of inmates serving sentences there. Of these, 659 letters were of good quality, and 2,207 were rated as fair or average.

The letter expresses remorse and repentance, and offers apologies to the victim, the victim's family, the inmate's relatives, and the agencies and units where the inmate previously worked and resided.

On this occasion, the Nghe An Provincial Library donated a number of books to Prison No. 6 to supplement the prison library, thereby enhancing the reading culture for inmates and helping them better understand the Party's guidelines and the State's policies and laws.

At the conference, General Department VIII awarded prizes to 6 collectives and individuals who had achieved outstanding results in the 2015 amnesty program; and awarded prizes to 2 collectives and 10 individuals for their achievements in the "Letters of Apology" writing campaign. In addition, the Supervisory Board of Prison No. 6 commended and rewarded 7 inmates for their achievements in the "Letters of Apology" writing campaign.
