After lunch consisting of rice, tomato soup, shredded chicken, and fried shrimp, many elementary school students simultaneously experienced stomach pain, nausea, and fever, requiring hospitalization.

Around 3 PM on October 5th, a number of students at Dinh Tien Hoang Primary School in Bich Dao Ward, Ninh Binh City, showed unusual symptoms. The children were then taken to the hospital for health checks. By late afternoon, the number of students admitted to Ninh Binh Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital and other nearby medical facilities continued to increase.

An ambulance arrived at Dinh Tien Hoang Primary School to transport children to the hospital on October 5th.

According to health department statistics, by 8 PM on the same day, more than 300 students from Dinh Tien Hoang Primary School had been hospitalized.

Principal Do Van Tu said that on October 5th, 953 children ate lunch at the school, with each meal costing 15,000 VND. The lunch portion included rice, fried shrimp, tomato soup, and shredded chicken... "The children who experienced vomiting, fever, and dizziness were mainly first-grade students; older students also had symptoms, but in smaller numbers," Mr. Tu said.

According to Mr. Tu, the school has been providing meals for students for many years, but nothing similar has ever happened before. He affirmed that the school's kitchen selects food from suppliers that ensure hygiene and safety.

The children were taken to the hospital in a vehicle after lunch at school on October 5th.

According to Mr. Vu Manh Duong, Director of the Ninh Binh Provincial Department of Health, on the morning of October 6th, approximately 50% of the students had been discharged from the hospital, while the rest were being monitored by doctors. Their health was relatively stable, and there were no critical cases.

Authorities are collecting food and patient samples to determine the cause.

Dinh Tien Hoang Primary School is a national standard school at level two, with 1,300 students in the 2018-2019 school year. It is considered one of the best-quality primary schools in Ninh Binh city.
