Over 437 billion VND was spent on Tet gifts for people with meritorious services.
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung agreed to authorize the Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs to submit to the President for consideration the awarding of gifts to those who have rendered meritorious services to the revolution on the occasion of the Lunar New Year of the Monkey in 2016. The total estimated cost of the gifts is over 437 billion VND.
The proposed gift amounts, as presented to the President, are divided into two levels: 400,000 VND and 200,000 VND.

Specifically, a gift of 400,000 VND per person is given to the following individuals: those who participated in revolutionary activities before January 1, 1945, and are currently receiving monthly preferential allowances; those who participated in revolutionary activities from January 1, 1945, to before the General Uprising on August 19, 1945, and are currently receiving monthly preferential allowances; Vietnamese Heroic Mothers currently receiving monthly preferential allowances; Heroes of the People's Armed Forces and Labor Heroes during the resistance war currently receiving monthly preferential allowances; relatives of martyrs currently receiving monthly survivor's benefits; and relatives of two or more martyrs currently receiving monthly survivor's benefits.
In addition, there are war invalids, sick soldiers, and those receiving benefits similar to war invalids with a disability rating of 81% or higher (including Category B war invalids recognized before December 31, 1993) who are receiving monthly preferential allowances; people who contributed to the revolution and are receiving monthly sustenance allowances; and resistance fighters who were exposed to chemical toxins and have a disability rating of 81% or higher who are receiving monthly preferential allowances.
With a gift of 200,000 VND per person, the following individuals are eligible: war invalids, sick soldiers, and those receiving benefits similar to war invalids with a disability rating of 80% or less (including Category B war invalids recognized before December 31, 1993) who are currently receiving monthly preferential allowances.
This level of benefits also applies to war invalids receiving disability benefits; primary representatives of martyrs' families (parents; spouse; children; those who cared for the martyr); representatives of families who worship martyrs (siblings, those authorized by the family to worship the martyr); people who contributed to the revolution and are receiving monthly preferential allowances; resistance fighters who were exposed to chemical toxins and whose working capacity has been reduced by 80% or less and are receiving monthly preferential allowances; and revolutionary and resistance fighters who were captured and imprisoned by the enemy and are receiving monthly preferential allowances.
