More than 6 million tourists come to Nghe An
(Baonghean.vn) - It is estimated that in 2018, the whole province will welcome and serve over 6 million tourists, with total revenue from tourists estimated at 7,410 billion VND, an increase over the same period in 2017. This is a good figure, but at the meeting of the Provincial Tourism Development Steering Committee held on the morning of December 24, delegates also raised concerns about the definition and method of counting tourists.

Specifically, delegates wondered, on what basis is the statistic of 6 million tourists? How is a tourist defined, when the actual number of out-of-town and foreign visitors has not reached the desired level?
Responding to this concern, Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong - Director of the Department of Tourism said that the definition of tourists has been clearly defined in legal documents. "Tourists are visitors who leave their homes for more than 20 km and use tourism products and services. For example, a person who leaves home to visit Thanh Chuong tea island, travels more than 20 km and goes there to use yacht services, take photos... is considered a tourist" - the head of the provincial tourism industry gave an example.
Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong also affirmed that the statistics in the report at the meeting were provided by the General Statistics Office, not by the Tourism Department. The data also clearly separates the number of general tourists, staying guests, international visitors, etc. Therefore, we can be assured of its objectivity and accuracy.

At the meeting, delegates acknowledged and highly appreciated the results that the province's tourism has achieved in the past year. Accordingly, investment activities in developing tourism infrastructure and facilities continue to be promoted; in particular, Nghe An has 2 sub-projects officially approved by the Government to participate in the Project "Developing tourism infrastructure, supporting comprehensive growth in the Greater Mekong Subregion - Phase II" funded by ADB.
Tourism promotion activities were strongly implemented both domestically and internationally; cooperation and association activities for tourism development were actively implemented in diverse forms... During the year, many new types of tourism products and experiential services were introduced to serve customers.

The highlight of the past time is that propaganda and promotion work has been maintained regularly on the media and social networks. Mr. Tran Huu Nghia - Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Nghe An Newspaper emphasized that propaganda is always the leading solution in tourism activities. In 2018, Nghe An Newspaper and the Department of Tourism signed a cooperation agreement in propaganda and promotion work and thereby achieved many remarkable steps forward. According to preliminary statistics, each year, over 3 publications of Nghe An Newspaper have over 300 news, articles, photo collections, video clips, Infographics, E-magazines... about tourism, contributing to spreading the image of Nghe An land and people to tourists near and far.
In addition, members of the Provincial Tourism Development Steering Committee also frankly pointed out a number of limitations and shortcomings in the province's tourism activities in recent times, such as unstable tourism growth; no breakthrough in product development; many tourism projects have been registered but the implementation progress is slow...
From that reality, the Provincial Tourism Development Steering Committee agreed on a number of goals and directions in 2019: Strengthening the direction and organization of the implementation of Resolution 08-NQ/TW of the Politburo on developing tourism into a spearhead economic sector and the Party and State's policies and guidelines on tourism.
