(Baonghean.vn) - Due to unpredictable weather conditions, over 700 hectares of newly planted summer-autumn rice in Yen Thanh district have been damaged by brown planthoppers and white-backed planthoppers, with densities commonly ranging from 30-50 insects/m2, and in some areas reaching even higher densities.500-1000unit/m2.

Of that area, 20 hectares were severely infested, mainly concentrated in the communes of Nhan Thanh, Phu Thanh, Khanh Thanh, etc. In addition, some rice fields were also infested with small leaf-rolling caterpillars; 36 hectares suffered from mild organic poisoning due to inadequate land preparation before planting.

In response to this situation, the district's agricultural sector has directed the agricultural committees of communes and towns to regularly inspect fields, monitor crops, and promptly detect pests and diseases in order to take timely control measures.

For areas infested with brown planthoppers and white-backed planthoppers, farmers are advised to spray with specific pesticides according to the "four correct principles," preventing widespread infestation. In fields affected by organic poisoning, the water should be drained for tilling and mud stirring. After changing the water, an additional 10-15 kg of phosphorus fertilizer per sao (approximately 1000 square meters) should be applied to stabilize rice growth.
