More than 9,000 tons of Quynh Luu pineapple (Nghe An) need a processing factory

The entire Quynh Luu district has 700 hectares of pineapple growing area, concentrated in the mountainous communes of Tan Thang, Quynh Thang and Quynh Chau. At this time, people are entering the harvest season with excitement because of the good pineapple crop. However, people are worried because they have to find their own outlet for pineapple products. There is no facility or factory that stands up to buy for them.

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Phu, Tan Thang commune said: His family planted 3 hectares of Queen pineapple, and has now harvested over 25 tons. This year, pineapples have grown well, with a high yield, estimated at 30 tons/ha. More excitingly, at the beginning of the season, pineapples cost 6,000 - 7,000 VND/kg, higher than last year. It is estimated that 1 hectare of pineapple will bring in a profit of 120 - 130 million VND. However, most pineapple products depend on traders.

Favorable weather, pineapple yield 28-30 tons/ha, pineapple price is 6-7 thousand VND/kg, higher than the same period.

Tan Thang commune has 400 hectares of pineapple, of which about 100 hectares are growing, the rest are in the harvest season (the whole district has 700 hectares of pineapple). The Queen pineapple variety that has been planted has good drought resistance, few pests and high yield. People here are really worried every time the harvest season comes because no unit or enterprise has signed a contract to purchase, process and consume.

Mr. Lang Dinh Liem - Vice Chairman of Tan Thang Commune People's Committee said: For a long time now, Quynh Luu Concentrated Pineapple Juice Factory has not purchased pineapples anymore, so people have been selling them on the market. There were five factories that bought only over 100 tons, then stopped buying them. The local government has repeatedly petitioned all levels and sectors to find a sustainable solution for the people, but so far there has been no solution.

With the current area, Quynh Luu has about 10,000 tons of pineapple, of which about 9,000 tons are purchased by traders at the garden for farmers and sold throughout the provinces in the country. The remaining about 200 - 300 tons are purchased by the Fruit Juice Processing Factory (Quynh Chau).

Quynh Luu pineapple is mainly sold freely in the market, at markets and kiosks inside and outside the province.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Dinh - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Quynh Luu district said that in 2012, the concentrated pineapple juice factory stopped production and changed its production and business model, since then pineapple growers began to face difficulties in output. Although the market is unstable, pineapple is still the main crop in the mountainous communes of Quynh Luu, so it cannot be abandoned. The district does not have the function of organizing output for farmers, but only supports in finding markets. Farmers need to assess the market situation, thereby limiting the area of ​​land for pineapple cultivation, avoiding the situation of "good harvest, low price".
