Honda CR-V has limited stock, price from 820 million after a big discount
The Honda CR-V SUV line currently only has the 2.0L and 2.4L special versions with prices ranging from 822 to 920 million VND at authorized dealers.
After more than a week of massive discounts that have shaken up the Vietnamese auto market, a survey at Honda auto dealerships in the North on the morning of September 11 showed that the number of Honda CR-V cars at the dealerships is still quite small.
Of the three versions 2.0L AT, 2.4L AT and 2.4L AT TG, the 2.4L AT version has been out of stock for a long time due to limited quantity. Some dealers are currently only selling the remaining two versions, while others have no more to sell. Honda Vietnam still lists the suggested retail price for the CR-V line from 898 million to 1.028 billion VND.
However, the asking price for the Honda CR-V 2.0L AT at dealers is only 820 million VND, up 90 million VND from the lowest price of 730 million VND last week. The special version 2.4L AT TG has a selling price of 920 million VND.

On September 11, Honda CR-V at dealerships only had 2.0L and 2.4L TG versions with prices ranging from 822 to 920 million VND. |
According to dealership owners, the number of customers has decreased significantly after the big sale week because the dealerships no longer have any cars. However, the retail price for the few remaining CR-Vs is still considered reasonable compared to before.
Meanwhile, speaking to Zing.vn, Honda Vietnam said that the Honda CR-V car sale from September 1 to 6 was an internal sales program with a certain quantity and exclusive incentives, thanking loyal customers. The specific number of cars sold will be updated by the Japanese joint venture in the September VAMA report.

Honda Vietnam also did not comment on how the sharp drop in the selling price of the Honda CR-V has affected the company's profits. However, this joint venture affirmed that it will still produce the 5-seat CR-V to pay for orders that have been officially signed through the car dealer system.
The sharp price reduction to a record low of only 730 million VND of Honda CR-V in the first week of September has strongly impacted the psychology of consumers and competitors in the Vietnamese market. Some customers who bought the CR-V at a cheap price were quite excited while others who did not have the opportunity to own it were quite upset.
The sharp drop in the price of the Honda CR-V has also caused the used car business to be in trouble. The loss for each CR-V is in the hundreds of millions of VND. Meanwhile, for competitors, Honda's move to sell off its inventory has made many customers who intend to buy the Mazda CX-5, Nissan X-Trail or Hyundai Tucson hesitate. Some even gave up their deposits to find a chance to buy the CR-V.

Honda CR-V sales compared to rival Mazda CX-5 in the first 7 months of 2017. |
According to the auto industry, the sharp price reduction for the CR-V helps Honda Vietnam complete its plan to clear inventory. However, the shocking price reduction also creates negative effects, affecting the reputation of this car line as well as the company.
According to the sales report of the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA), in the first 7 months of 2017, the cumulative sales of Honda CR-V reached nearly 1,800 vehicles. Its rival Mazda CX-5 had sales of about more than 4,300 vehicles.
