According to the Competition Authority, this program applies to products sold in the Vietnamese market manufactured in 2012 (a total of 1,335 vehicles). The implementation method will involve inspecting and replacing affected parts (airbag inflators) at all Honda automobile distributors nationwide. Importantly, all costs related to the inspection and replacement of affected parts will be covered by Honda Vietnam Company (labor costs, replacement parts).
Automotive experts share that the reason for the recall for repair/replacement is that the gas-generating particles in the airbag inflator are altered when exposed to environments with fluctuating temperature and humidity over extended periods, which can cause overpressure when the airbag is activated. The root cause of the overpressure is under investigation. Although no cases have occurred with Honda vehicles on the market yet, to ensure absolute safety for customers, as a preventative measure and to investigate the root cause, Honda Motor Company of Japan has decided to recall vehicles to replace the passenger-side airbag inflator.
On the part of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, as the state management agency responsible for protecting consumer rights, the Competition Management Department has been actively monitoring the recall program for the aforementioned Honda Civic, Honda CR-V, and Honda Accord vehicles and will continue to provide information to consumers and the press in the coming period.
