Police raided a gambling den where people were betting using the dice game "xóc đĩa".
(Baonghean.vn) - Kien arranged for 12 other individuals to gamble using the dice game at the house of Mr. Hanh (Kien's aunt's husband). The total amount of money seized at the gambling site and surrounding area was 42.5 million VND.
On August 27th, the Quy Hop District People's Court held a public trial for the first-instance criminal case against Pham Trung Kien (born in 1982), residing in Tam Hop commune, for the crimes of "organizing gambling" and "gambling". The defendants Phan Thi Thuy, Truong Xuan Than, Dao The Hong, Hoang Van Toan, Pham Thi Nhung, Pham Van Ut, Nguyen Thi Hoa, Vo Thi Chung, Le Thi Ngoc, Pham Toan Thang, Nguyen Van Tuan, and Hoang Manh Hau were charged with "gambling".
According to the indictment, at approximately 3:30 PM on May 7, 2020, Kien drove his younger sister, Pham Thi Nhung, to visit Mr. Truong Dinh Hanh (Kien's aunt's husband), who was ill. On the way to Mr. Hanh's house, Kien conceived the idea of gambling, so he went into a convenience store to buy a deck of playing cards to use as gambling tools. He intended to use Mr. Hanh's house as a gambling location and collect money from gamblers, giving a portion to the homeowner. Kien used his phone to contact and entice the aforementioned individuals to participate in the gambling.

During a gambling operation at Mr. Hanh's house, the Quy Hop District Police discovered and apprehended 13 individuals caught red-handed gambling using the dice-shaking method. They seized 42.5 million VND, one ceramic bowl, one ceramic plate, four circular dice cut from playing cards (one side green, one side red), one dice board, 15 mobile phones, one car, eight motorbikes, and one gold ring…
It is known that defendants Phan Thi Thuy and Dao The Hong have very bad criminal records. Thuy is currently serving a 15-month suspended sentence for gambling and is still continuing to gamble, while Dao The Hong has previously been sentenced to 7 years in prison for the crimes of "Intentional infliction of injury," "Murder," "Receiving stolen property," and "Gambling."
At the trial, the defendants bowed their heads and pleaded guilty. The panel of judges sentenced Pham Trung Kien to a total of 18 months in prison for the two crimes of "Organizing gambling" and "Gambling"; Phan Thi Thuy was sentenced to a total of 24 months in prison; and Truong Xuan Than received a 6-month suspended sentence with a 12-month probation period and an additional fine of 10 million VND.
The defendants, including Hong, Toan, Nhung, Ut, Hoa, Chung, Ngoc, Thang, Tuan, and Hau, were sentenced by the court to fines ranging from 20 to 35 million VND. The total fines imposed on these defendants amounted to nearly 200 million VND.
