Hung Nguyen: 5 unlicensed sand quarries are in operation.
(Baonghean.vn) - In Hung Nguyen district, there are currently 5 unlicensed sand quarries that are still operating, causing public outrage.
Currently, Hung Nguyen district has 13 sand and gravel wharves, of which 8 have been licensed as inland waterway wharves, while 5 remain unlicensed. The situation of illegal sand and gravel gathering and trading wharves not only violates the Land Law, obstructs waterway traffic, and encroaches on dike corridors, but also causes environmental pollution and facilitates illegal sand and gravel mining activities.

Mr. Luu Duc Dien, a specialist in the economic and infrastructure department of Hung Nguyen district, said: 5 unlicensed sand wharves include 2 wharves in Hung Linh commune, 1 wharve in Hung Khanh commune, 1 wharve in Hung Chau commune, and 1 wharve in Hung Long commune. Since the beginning of 2017, the district has established an inter-agency team to inspect and fine each enterprise 2 million VND; at the same time, it has required the wharf owners to prepare the necessary documents and procedures to apply for inland waterway wharf licenses.
"Illegal sand wharves often operate clandestinely, making them difficult to manage. Hung Nguyen district is reviewing the situation and will resolutely shut down any sand wharves that do not meet the requirements. For wharves that meet the requirements, the owners will be required to complete the necessary paperwork and procedures to apply for an inland waterway wharf license," Mr. Dien said.
