Hung Nguyen mobilizes the entire population to participate in irrigation work.

(Baonghean.vn) - On October 15th, Hung Thong commune, Hung Nguyen district, held a ceremony to launch a campaign for all citizens to participate in irrigation work. Hundreds of local people, youth union members, and students participated in the ceremony.

Over the years, with the support of the state and the contributions of labor and money from the people, Hung Nguyen district has built over 90 large and small pumping stations, nearly 400 km of irrigation canals, over 200 km of drainage canals, and constructed dikes to prevent floods and waterlogging in the fields, as well as dozens of irrigation and drainage projects that effectively serve agricultural production.

Through annual irrigation campaigns, infrastructure has been repaired, canals dredged and reinforced, embankments built, and drainage systems improved for winter crops. This has also prepared irrigation facilities for the winter-spring crop season and helped to promptly address the consequences of storms and floods.

This year, the district has directed local authorities and units to develop specific plans and programs, assigning targets, locations, volumes, and personnel allocations that closely reflect the actual situation. In particular, dredging, clearing, and repairing several key projects are necessary, such as: Canal T18, Canal T20, Canal N5, Canal N7, Canal T3, Le Xuan Dao Canal, Canal 12/9, Canal 17, Cau Ban Canal, etc.

In this year's campaign to mobilize the entire population for irrigation work, Hung Nguyen district aims to achieve the following targets: raising, leveling, and dredging 200 km of irrigation canals, clearing 125 km of drainage canals, repairing and maintaining damaged machinery and equipment at pumping stations, with a volume of 700,000 m3 of excavated and filled earth, and 500,000 man-days of labor.

Through this campaign aimed at building and developing a regular irrigation movement, the people's proactive awareness in socializing irrigation work will be fostered. Simultaneously, it will prepare them to respond to any potential drought or flood situations; and all segments of the population will be informed about the economic benefits of repairing and upgrading irrigation works to serve agricultural production, aquaculture, and people's lives.
